Idefinately think the Do335 is ugly, but it is very interesting all the same and its history makes it a classic.

Ohers I could add like thay are the Bristol Freighter and the Carvair, both pug ugly but you are drawn to them because thet’re interesting aircraft and I’d prefer to have one than a modern Boeing or Airbus to shift my freight about. 🙂

…and wasn’t the Do-335 Pfeil one of if not the fastest piston aircraft of WW2 ???

    Hi Panther,

No, from what I remember reading at the time, the 1960 Magister was doing aerobatics, and then just spiralled down and crashed into the sea, claiming the life of our Olympic gold-medal winning yatchsman and his passenger, who was a former Skyhawk pilot.
    🙁

There doesn’t seem to be anything released on the CAA website.

Sorry can’t be of more help.

For sure, the pilot was Chris Yimms, a well known athlete here in NZ and his passenger was Kerry Campbell.

    Sorry Turb,
In Britain, a Kiwi is mostly thought of as a small, hairy fruit, which you chop the top off before spooning out the insides. Now I, as an Aussie, couldn’t possibly comment that would be a good way to treat all Kiwis, could I? (Some of my friends are from NZ, but I try not to remind them. They cry.)

    Heh.

And harmony folds its tent in the night, and departs the southern hemisphere…

My misinterpretation…I thought it was a dig at the dis-establishment of our fine airforce strike wing….which still peeves people off down here.

When it comes to WW2 I reckon that you can’t seperate the Ozzies and the Kiwis. All that banter was left aside and they fought alongside each other.

    All is good !! 😉

The wing section was supposed to be good for high mach numbers I believe.
I reckon the Thunderbolt gets to high speed just be sheer weight & force…. !!!
