If I’m not mistaken it looks a little more like a Fury (the Naval counterpart of the Sabre). Has a different tailplane and different tail section.
I might be wrong though…. 😮
Most definitely agree with your comments too, Mark
Cheers
Good comments. people.
The “Last Post” is a very emotional tune and I for one found it hard not to be choked up whilst attending the ANZAC dawn parade and listening to it.
I feel proud to be able to pay my respects to these brave men and women who fought and died for our freedom.
I didn’t realise the Connie was amphibious….:D
I want to go to Gallipoli too one day. It is on my list of things to do before I get too old.
Dave, glad to hear your Anzac day went well.
That “saluting story” is awesome !!
My family has a copy of Johnny Checketts’ autobiography that is personally signed by him. That is a real honour and something that we will not part with, ever. I have not yet read it but will endeavour to do so.
Cheers
Chris.
What a great story.
Thanks for sharing, Observer.
It almosts sounds like they’re belittling Sgt Jackson’s VC medal being earnt because he didn’t save the Bomber !!
He’s definitely a hero in my eyes !!
Cheers

To Eric Mc :
That’s cool, I’ll always like the look of the B-36 and I do understand why people may not.
Like I said, only my opinion 😉
Oh, to hear the six turnin’ and four burnin’ once again,
sadly only way is through surround sound while watching Strategic Air Command…:(

Beautiful means looks only. With that in mind, impressive aircraft like the B-36, extreme aircraft like the Extra and successful aircraft like the Neptune should really fall out of the equation.
On the other hand, beauty is in the eye of the beholder so what looks good to you may look hideous to me. The important thing is that it is looks that count for the pupose of determining “beauty”..
Well, in my opinion…paragraph one, …nope….
paragraph two…yup !!:)
I think the B-36 is an aesthetically BEAUTIFUL AIRCRAFT !!!
Has a majesty and gracefulness only matched by the Saro Princess.
🙂 🙂 🙂
Why am I the only one here that believes that the Convair B-36 Peacemaker is a beautiful aircraft ???
😉
I’m going to be bagged and told “what the…?” but I think this aircraft has a majestic beauty all of it’s own.
They don’t make aircraft like this anymore…:(
I still have some more I have to “retouch” a little, that I haven’t posted yet.
Watch this space….:D
Nice pics…!!!!:)
yes I remember the dust, dust, dust, dust…my poor camera:(
The DC-3 Nose section was from an ex-topdresser (not kidding !!)
Cheers
Chris
Imagine the sky full of rumbling B-36’s bombing Iraq…:)
Wow, Dave…after seeing these pictures…it left me speechless.
The thought that there were real people about to die makes me respect the people that gave their lives to ensure our ongoing freedom just all that much more.
As said before,we see a lot of the “glamorous” side of warbirds and too often this side is overlooked and ignored but a very real part of the whole equation that was day to day for these brave souls.
As Dave said, I also will be going to the dawn ANZAC parade to remember those gallant soldiers who allowed to live our comfortable lives that we often take for granted.
We will not forget.
Chris
I agree with Steve, well done, mate.
