Hiya guys,

Thanks for the replies,

Mmitch: yes I definitely have, and have even joined a couple of Yahoo groups (where the pic came from)

The plans are dirt cheap (ie about US$75) and there is also a couple of ways of manufacturing them , (wood ribs or steel tubing).
They are very docile and easy to fly and also lend them selves to a variety of powerplants in the 60-95 hp range.
Corvairs (air-cooled flat-6 US car engines) are quite a popular choice.

Will definitely keep you all informed on progress.

Yes I saw the news, apparently it flew upwards into the clouds, and then was seen spiralling vertically after a loud bang but with the engines still running…

The other passenger was an experienced ex-Skyhawk pilot.

Apparently .hit the mudflats at high velocity

I also read that the forced workers used to urinate in the glue pots used for bonding German wooden aircraft together, in particular the He-162 Jet. It was believed that may have contributed to the prototype’s wing break-up in mid-air.

I was always amazed at how much louder the Magister was in relation to the Vampire.
Was a beautiful jet and was very graceful in the air.

Dave, was it going to be featured at Wanaka ?

oh no !!!

I’ve regularily seen that jet at airshows. Very impressive doing formation aerobatics with the Vampires

I was staring at my Michael JH Taylor Spitfire print on the wall last night and the question occurred to me.

Yes Dave, I remember the Mark and Ray Hanna duo at WOW 1992….absolutely breathtakingly precise flying which we unfortunately will never see again.:(

The Skyhawks streaking across the runway at nearly 500 knots with pyros were a sight to see and hear….you Northern Hemisphere people don’t know how lucky you are being able to see a bonafide strike force simulating.

……Me’s wondering if they could put .50 cals in the wings and Mark 82’s on the RNZAF Red Checkers Air Trainers….:D

After seeing both of them together, I prefer the greenhouse one. Looks more classic and in line with the age of the aircraft.
