    Pity…

I was thinking there was going to be another surprise for the airshow….ah well !!

The Yak-9 was great while it was here too….they also are quite small.

Machine guns that spit out 30 rounds a second (three times faster than browning 30 cals) and with most models fitted with 20mm cannon as well it was quite well armed for a stubby little race car.

Don’t get wrong, I think the Polikarpovs are awesome, esp. the I-153 , just they haven’t quite got the aesthetic beauty of a Spit or La-9 (my opinion only here BTW 😀 )

    Cheers

great, thanks for that informative answer, Ant.

The more I see and read about the La-9 the more fascinated I become with it.

I hope at Wanaka, they do a “dogfight” with the La-9 and Corsair

    What’s the difference between the 9 & 11 ?

    They look very similar.

What about authentic outwards retracts ?
Not enough space in the wings for wells ?
Or maybe ground handling be as good (bad) as a ‘109….. ??

    yeah Taylor monoplane, thats it.

Does it run a half VW motor or the full 4 cylinder ?

Retracts should clean it up nicely. And a nice PR blue scheme
(ala R/R’s Spit) would look simply superb !!

it reminds me of that spitfire kit you could get in the 60s and 70s, wasn’t it called Taylor or something like that…

sorta looked like a Spit if you squinted your eyes a bit…:D

yeah, but could you call the I-16 elegant ???
    Purposeful, mean, stubby, and aggressive,…perhaps…

We’ve had very little in the way of russian aircraft here, until recently that is,…so most people (including myself) judge by the Polikarpovs….

That is exactly what I thought when I saw the Yak-3.

Should be good to see a formation of I-15, I-16, Yak-3, and La-9 i the air together… if they are all there that is…

    Yak-3 ??

Didn’t know a Yak-3 was going to be there ?

    Hey Daz,

Do you have any pics of your yet-to-be-built 1/2 Scale Spit kit ?

I’ll try and get some pics of it parked up against the lovely South Island landscape when I’m there.

Would you say its quite comparable in speed to a Sea Fury ?

Also weren’t they used in the early stages of the Korean War, flown by NK Air Force ?

I am now really chomping at the bit to see it fly….

Is this the only one flying in the world ?
