The whizzy wires!! I had forgotten them! And wires reminds me of trolley buses, not trams, which ferried me to school for a couple of years. And the conductor using the long pole to change over the connectors, whatever they were called.

Those wonderful tubes took your money and returned your change and I think a receipt as well…..and used in dozens of independent provision merchants and ironmongers as well as every town’s department store.
