I was very much looking forward to going this weekend but some family arrangements have taken precedence so I do hope we will see some pictures on here, although Stow Maries has an excellent website which will be populated with evidence of the day, I am sure.

It’s a pleasure, as it was to have, in a very small way, helped the Telegraph donate £1 million towards the £5 million costs. It is so overdue but will be so treasured when it is completed.

I am too, particularly because these pictures are very much of my time but sadly lacking in photographs to contribute. Keep them coming for some of us – especially the great Bev!!:)

    Any pictures?
Any members of the press there to record the work beginning?

As one of its strongest supporters the Telegraph has this:

I liked the subtext of Obama’s comments about not releasing any photographs. We killed him, we have proved to our satisfaction that it was Bin Laden we killed and subsequently buried at sea and we have made the announcement to the world. If anyone doesn’t believe us that is their problem.

Only just got to Barbarossa – fascinating read! Yes, it does seem a bit odd – I’m sure the Editor will have his reasons.;)

It would be a short trial then, and there would be no conspiracy theories if he was publicly hung.

In strictly legal terms his guilt would still have to have been proven, and at the end of the process his martyrdom would have been far more assured than the quick and bloody death in a bedroom at the dead of night. No rallying calls from the witness box, no dedications to the zealous followers and no denunciations of the infidel etc etc.

You can argue this every which way, and I am not really the best person to be doing it either. He is now dead, but what he represented is still very much alive. I believe he should have gone to trial – just as Saddam Hussein did before him. You, and others don’t believe that and I can accept that.

Life will continue to go on…:)

Isn’t there a key difference between this case and that of Saddam Hussein? Bin Laden openly admitted to his “crimes” whereas Saddam pleaded not guilty, so far as I recall. Finding Bin Laden guilty after enless months would have served only to confirm what we and the world already knew by his own admission.
