How marvellous that he should have inspired you to what you have succeeded in now! I am sure he would be quietly delighted, if he knew.
Drive past the museums on your right and the entrance is about 300 yards further on the left. The hardware is well hidden from the road but easily identified on Google Earth.
…for once?;)
Did the real upkeeps hit the dams with such force or were they timed to have lost most of their energy before they hit?
I would have expected the mine to become damaged or explode with that force. The program was very interesting and gave an insight in to what it must have looked like on the day, the DC4 being a good approximation.
I did get the feeling though it was more luck, good fortune than judgement that the bomb hit. Far too many random variables (bomb speed, altitude, distance from dam) unlike the real mission.
The Scientist guy getting all emotional in the Lanc. I can understand that. The Lanc is a very imposing and historic aircraft.
The Upkeep was designed to bounce up to the dam wall, then sink down close to the wall, exploding several metres below the surface.

Your point about your uncle is interesting. I have never understood the term “closure” and I never recall being aware of it when I was younger. Is it a relatively “modern” concept?
A relative of mine was, with others, killed many years ago and the perpetrators never caught. That fact has not affected my life and I doubt that it would be changed if they were ever caught and brought to justice.
Nothing will bring him back. But his death closed his life as a member of our family.

It came from nowhere but me. Thanks for clarifying the case and my misconception of it.:)
That point could be equally applied to many of threads in the GD forum, could it not?

I am sure if either became available they would re-arrange exhibits to accomodate one of them, at least. Yes the dreaded R letter, but why? And why does the MoD simply retain airframes, and even parts of airframes, which are of no value to them, but which would be treasured by those with rather more interest?
I thought you’d left us…..;):D

I believe there is a Harrier and a Phantom which the History Museum would like to get their hands on but the MoD still own the aircraft on the fire dump and won’t release them. Bizarre.
The degree of lateral thought you apply from time to time leaves me in wonderment! But, of course………..how are your pas de deux?
