Yes indeed it does. But so often does the telling of it. I am quite sure you would never think of delivering the news of a family death, for example, by announcing ” Bad accident. He’s dead!”. At least I very much doubt it. The truth will be bad enough but the way it is delivered can either soften the blow of have the effect of inserting the knife in to the heart.

An extreme example perhaps, but one to make my point.

Whilst I hold no brief whatsoever for the Mail, indeed have rarely turned its pages, surely none of our national dailies are independent in any way. Each appeals to various sections and sectors of society, all or some of which, will define the appeal of a particular paper or papers to each one of us.

Perhaps it’s your bluntness which occasioanlly offends, Arthur!;):)

Your actions will have hurt Tesco in a very minor way, as a result of this incident Tesco may, as Arthur indicated, hurt other charities by refusing to support them.

I fear Tesco has a thicker skin than you give it credit for. But, were they to take the sort of action to which you and Arthur refer, then they would be displaying both vindictiveness as well as a degree of blackmail. I.e. play by our rules or else. I am not convinced that that sort of publicity would do their image much good.

I disagree and do not think it a non-story, despite Arhur’s sarcastic comment. With apologies I had missed the reference to the buckets being stickered.:)

However the moral to this tale might be to keep your collection boxes away from large commercial organisations which might see it as an opportunity to further them and their image.

IF the story is verified then it will certainly not be a “non-story” and I would wonder firstly why Tesco takes a cut, whatever the percentage and secondly why it is not made clear that ther donations are being divided between the Wings Appeal and other charities.

As and when I donate I wish to choose to which charity I make that donation and do not want others to choose on my behalf.
