I seem to remember some years ago the best invention ever (in the world), was decided to be the flushing toilet.

Invented in the 19th century by Thomas Crapper!:D

I think it is the same for every generation because you can only compare your experience with what went before, and it will always seem better. But coming back to teaching, I am not sure it is true at all.:(

Kev – those two are interesting. Fode would seem to be an OE or Saxon word from which foot has evolved, but is yard in the Black Country. Ginnel is an alley or narrow passageway in Yorkshire.

I think there are many and varied reasons for that. They bunk off school because no one cares and no one can do much about it in 2011!!

I have friends in the U.S.A. and other places, and have managed to have to explain some of OUR words, and the differences they mean, ie Curtains,= Drapes.Nappies = Diapers etc.
Anyone from anywhere, any Country tell me some of the words they use, which have the same meaning, but named differently.

Let alone words in our own country!;)

I did suffer the classic misunderstanding many years ago in the US, when I was introduced to “Bill” who nodded to his colleague who said, “Hi I’m Randy.”
