No not all. I see no purpose in the census but the government does. That’s not a contradiction. Although if this is the last then it rather undermines the government’s argument, I would have thought.

Exactly and well put and I would add that NOWHERE is appropriate because resources should be directed towards the most efficient forms of energy production.

No one would actually build these inefficient machines unless they were guaranteed a 100 per cent subsidy to do so. This forces electricity companies to buy the power produced by onshore wind at twice the market rate, paid by all of us through our electricity bills. And for offshore wind the subsidy is 200%. You certainly do not need to be a Nimby to make a cogent and unarguable case.

I have never heard a government minister of any persuasion refer to the previous census when discussing planning for the future. And if, as expected, it is the last, how much better to have cancelled this one and saved the £500 million.

Your response to the religion question does not answer my point. Voluntary questions are pointless because they will not give the whole picture, and are therefore redundant.

If respondents amuse themselves with the question, it makes it even more pointless.

I appreciate your comments in response to my post but would just make two points. Firstly the safety of a human being takes complete precedence over the saving of an aircraft, notwithstanding heroic efforts by many warbird pilots to save their aircraft. And secondly I did not mean to criticise the owners – I am in no position to do so, but I was merely trying to make some objective observations.

As I said I could wish for nothing more than to see a Mossie at Legends this year.:)

Good for you, Ringo. But do not on any account make the basis of your objection nimbyism, because that is not an objective argument. The objection should be based on the arguments we have been enunciating in the thread. Good luck!!

Yes, I think we know what it means, thanks. How did we manage in years gone by with far simpler censuses or censi, perhaps. It has to do with government’s deep-seated need to have a record of as much about each of us as possible. They don’t actually need most of the information they seek.

The fact that many people are deeply religious does not mean that they need or wish to share that information with central government.

I am afraid your points are symptomatic of sport in the 21st century. It has certainly tempered my enjoyment of my two favourites – cricket and rugger.
