True,but they are different things, Linc, surely. The fact that the oil price is rising has nothing to do with this government or any other UK government. How it will act to reduce the effect of petrol price rises is yet to be seen.

A bit of perspective here, I think Linc. We all understand that whilst there is instability due to events in North Africa and elsewhere oil prices will rise and so will all downstream products. Bear in mind that anything manufactured from naphtha will be affected from toys to packaging and clothing. It is speculation anyway because we do not know where prices will end up but equally they will come down again.

The key to it is the government’s promise on a fuel regulator to soften the effects of the oil price rise. We have not heard much about it, although we can probably expect something in the Budget.

We do seem to be of a mind on this, don’t we?

Let me rephrase my original comment: English is the official first language in Scotland and Wales. Minority languages are spoken all over the world – on our doorstep Breton is more and more widely spoken but French remains the first language of France. The fact that minorities use a language for their own interest and pleasure does not affect the status of the language the majority use and speak.

Not sure what you mean. Correct me if I am wrong but English has been the official language of the UK for centuries. The fact that a few thousand Scots also speak Gaelic and that Welsh was resurrected from being close to extinction 50 years ago, does not alter that fact.
