In general I think that is absolutely right. I suspect the “hidden” level of racism is higher because of the sheer numbers of immigrants now here and the abject failure of multiculturalism.

Humour has offended some and not others for a century or more. And so it should. My only yardstick is – is it funny? If not I switch it off. As this week’s most unpopular poster implied in an earlier post it is ironic that individuals within some predefined “group” are free to insult each other without offence being taken whereas the moment anyone outside that “group” insults them they are practically banged up. Multiple standards apply.

I never saw it and it sounds as though its humour was based on racial stereotyping so of course it could never be shown or remade now.

Al – “I cannot argue with any of those points. Smart procurement has been anything but. “

But why? It seems to have been going on for decades and is endemic to the culture. Does it stem for the wartime explosion of the need for military hardware which was signed off willy-nilly? Or are there other, more sinister reasons? Or just plain incompetence?

I have to admire your unashamed PR efforts on behalf of your museum. I am promising myself a trip to Yorkshire sometime later this year with YAM high on the list and I will try to make the effort to visit Newark as well. Your website is excellently informative and since my last visit was sometime in the 80s it will be unrecognisable!!:)
