What I was interested in was whether we could repel an attack if the Argies decided to recapture the Falklands. Politically I doubt they would in the current climate, but, if they did, could we do anything about it?

Also I was interested in whether the Argies could (militarily) actually take the islands? Would they have the equipment?

Indeed it is an interesting question, but as Kev says there seems to be some evidence that at the moment that there is neither the inclination nor the resources to do so.

Exactly right and a statement of the bl****ding obvious, if I may say so. I didn’t say anything to the contrary. The outcome of any election in any country can be seen as “good” or “bad” by other countries but this has nothing to do with the democratic process being carried out by the electorate of the country in question.

It really doesn’t matter how much whingeing and bellyaching against Ryanair goes on because, for as long as its passengers accept how it operates, it will not make a scrap of difference.

Precisely. The military have no choice other than to declare allegiance to whichever party wins the elections, which must be transparent. Obama and the West may not get what they hope for, and desire.

Your argument exemplifies my concern precisely. If the military are not happy with the results of a “free and fair democratic election” then military rule will prevail and the protesters will have gained little.

I mentioned Benny but Laurel and Hardy were a pair. Chaplin never really caught me, compared to Keaton and Lloyd and I suppose someone was bound to get a dig at Bush – yawn, yawn…….
