There is a misconception about what is “free”. Nothing is free, because someone pays. In the case of government provided services we the taxpayers pay for it.

If the government has not got sufficient money because it cannot raise enough in taxers or because it has run up massive debts, which have to be reduced, then people have to subsidise some services.

The truth is that the explosion in universities and university courses was based solely on the Labour government’s message that everyone should be able to go to “university ” to study, anything, for three years, to attain a degree, many of which were not worth the paper they were written on.

It made a mockery of what a university education used to mean. It should be for the brightest and intellectually most capable 6th formers to go on to to try to attain a meaningful degree.

A return to the system of elite universities and high quality technical colleges should be at he forefront of the current government’s higher education policy. But, of course, it will never happen.

And as for the scum who caused havoc this week they should be made to may for the damage they caused as well as be made to clean it up.

Well, I don’t know but I have now tried flying using the Machmetre and I have now had a few far more successful flights. No overspeeding and more controlled landings although I still find it a difficult aircraft to fly, compared to many others. Like the real thing, perhaps it just takes a lot of practice!:)

I would be interested to know how many of the protesters were actually undergraduates at university, at which university and what courses they were studying. And as for blaming the politicians, that is the same cry we get from strikers who cause inconvenience and disrupt peoples’ lives. No one HAS to protest or HAS to strike. And certainly no one HAS to cause damage to people or property.

I hope the punishment for those found guilty of an offence will be to reimburse for the damage and to clean up the mess and remove the graffiti. But of course that will not be the punishment, as we know.

Having been through it all with my grandson anything half authentic and with moving parts will be broken within days, let alone weeks. Young children manage to do damage we adults could not conceive of. Don’t waste your hard earned money on anything other than a simple toy, at this stage. In another two years, if he still has the interest, then you can get something a bit more serious.:)

Indeed, indeed – £9 billion worth of ring-fenced overseas aid could have made a difference to defence!!
