There was no problem with skilled labour – Mosquito was built in furniture factories up and down the land, with final assembly at Hatfield, Leavesden and Hawarden.

    Bruce

Thanks, Bruce – I didn’t realise that it was already being manufactured at furniture factories. So the comments about supplies of timber are the pertinent ones. Is there any liklihood of another Mossie in the air at some time in the future?

I know you were not responding directly to my question in an earlier post, but I was wondering more about the production skills than the supply of timber itself.

What’s this got to do with a Harrier? It is a reported CAA comment from an ex-Board member on permitting another fast jet to fly?

NO!:( Well what a career and a true Hollywood star with 5 or 6 wives to his credit, as well as being a good actor – witness The Boston Strangler on the one hand and Some Like it Hot on the other.

Cheeful and chappy are not the too most immediate epithets I would have ascribed to the individual you referred to – chubby, yes, and a few others. I imagine it has a long history – I made a couple of heli flights there back in the late 60s but have not been there since. Has it been a thriving private airfield? Perhaps this thread should be in GA………………..

They have had offers from Discovery channel and other big name TV programs asking to make fly on the wall and other projects, all seemed to be rejected.
On what grounds, for heaven’s sake?

What an interesting thread, with some interesting theories being bounced around. I have always treasured the Mossie and was saddened by the loss of both the last airworthy aircraft and of course her crew several years ago. Are there any active rersorations to airworthiness projects?

But a question ocurrs to me as far as this debate is conceend – if there had been a heavy demand to increase production would the capacity to produce these “wooden wonders” have existed? It is one thing to subcontract metal working and assembly but what about specialised wood working?

I think, but for the present and past governments’ obsession with wind energy, wave energy might have been studied in much more depth. There’s probably not enough in it for electricity companies………..;)

Bruce – I quite agree. And your last sentence applies to every minority interest inhabited by raving enthusiasts. I don’t think any of us are any illusion as to the contrary, are we?

Chox – exactly right. As I said earlier it is all about agressive PR and marketing and, in this, I suggest that the people who run the charity have failed, dismally.
