Yes, that’s true but dramatic license is surely allowable when a couple of hundred page have to be condensed into an hour or so of television. I also wondered about the implication that Wellum had no leave for many weeks, whereas it is clear from other books and writings that squadron pilots did get leave of varying lengths during the course of 1940/41.

But these were minor details that, I felt, did not detract from a very good film.

I always thought that the company chose an apt name when it called itself the Old Flying Machine Company. OFMs, perhaps……………..I have heard “Legends” applied to old and rather passe musical and theatrical performers!!

I enjoyed it very much indeed and did not find the empty airfield and odd continuity bloopers distracting. The story was so simply and movingly told, the mixture of dramatised action with Geoffrey Wellum’s interspersed narrative worked perfectly.

It showed that with careful direction, clever editing and focussed production, a multi-million pound budget is not necesaary to tell a good story. I must now re-read the book, which has lain gathering dust on the shelves for too long.

As someone else pointed out, yet again the Beeb stabs itself in the foot by ruining the end credits with some pointless and irritating continuity link. WHY DO THEY DO IT??????:mad:

I am very much looking forward to seeeing this tonight on iPlayer – in their wisdom the Beeb do not appear to be scheduling any repeats. And then I’ll contribute my twopenn’orth to this interesting thread.

I am not taking any side or questioning any one side in particular. I suggest that the truth MIGHT come out by the end of the trial, since all parties will have all the available evidence – much of it perhaps not in the public domain.

A debate without all the evidence achieves little.

Yeah, you’re right – best not go at all!

Don’t forget that if you REALLY want to go to Wales, you can get in for free further North than the Severn crossings. But you’re probably better off this side of the Dyke.:D

Another case of posters submitting seemingly strong evidence, which may or may not be supportable – not everything on the net is gospel. So again we should wait to see what the case reveals – perhaps posters are right, perhaps there will be a French fudge, but we don’t know yet. Presumably the defence will have all the alleged evidence posted here and much else besides. And perhaps the prosecution will have a few tricks up their sleeves as well.

It does seem to have taken a heck of a long time to be brought to court.

I was compiling my list and realising that it would repeat many of the previous posts. And then I thought if these are the only things which annoy me then, in the overall scheme of things, I’m not too hard done by.

So I’ll remain pragmatic and store up my energies just in case something really big comes along to really make me angry.
