Unheralded among the media frenzy and the resonant echoes of righteous indignation, buried away at the foot of a page on the BBC News website is the following quote from Hertfordshire Police:

Officers spoke to reassure the home owner, talked through security and gave advice in relation to the importance of reporting suspicious activity immediately to allow officers to act appropriately.

For clarification, at no point were any official warnings or words of advice given to the home owner in relation to the use of a knife or offensive weapon in their home.”

    So there you go……

Yeees, maybe, but it wouldn’t be the first time that the police account differed from the account of the member of the public. As some of us can testify!

I think the only positive discrimination should be shown to those who can offer a modicum of common sense.

    Can’t argue with that!

Longitude, by Dava Sobel. It about some clocks:D

A propos, it was excellently dramatised on TV starring Michael Gambon a few years ago.

The only comment I have is that any sort of weighted selection is wrong. In any selection process the key crirterium should always be that the best individuals should be considered, regardless of sex, colour, ethnicity ( what a dreadful word ) or creed.

Hi Sky High, happy to agree to disagree but i’d also be interested in the alternatives you see for Britain if you don’t think the three choices i think Britain has are the only ones.
    Cheers.

After much thought over the past year I am convinced, as I think I have already implied, that withdrawal is the only option. For me a federal Europe is not desirable and I suspect it is not desirable for 50% or more of the European population. It is just that, like us, all but Ireland were denied a referendum – for the obvious reason.

But don’t worry – you know and I know it will never happen to you can sleep safe.:(

Anything! as someone has already said, governments should be scared of the people not people scared of the government!

Well, that’s helpful. Yes we all agree but you still haven’t come up with anything. Shouting from the rooftops is fine but if you can’t back it up with action it is no better than p*****g in the wind.

Very simple. From the age of about 6, to fly. And for various reasons I wasn’t able to achieve the ambition. At least not by joining the RAF. I was offered a Navigators Course at Hornchurch, on medical grounds, but flying was all I wanted so that was that.
