This incident invites more questions than there will ever be answers. But in an attempt to simplify the case I will pose two questions.
1. If he was suffering from any sort of mental illness why was his journey to China not closely supervised and accompanied?
2. If he was not suffering from a mental illness and was just stupid enough to be duped then he has paid the penalty.
Anyone travelling to countries with very different legal systems than our own should be aware of the potential risks before they travel.
It’s that time of year again. So what’s your New Year Resolutions? :p
Continue, as I have started this year, having re-discovered my passion, to spend more time on aviation and less on other more ephemeral stuff like work!:D

OK, just to put those of you who don’t know me out of their misery:
Chief Technician Paul Blackah, RAF, BBMF, Black 6, historic aircraft etc etc
and Mrs Fluffy says she doesn’t ‘do’ hats!
Just wait ’til the day dawns! Congratulations.:)
they do!
Well that explains it – I was looking for Fluffy, not Blackah!;)
The military list is separate from the civil list
Not there either………….unless my eyes deceived me!
BIG well done to my lovely hubby for his MBE. Is that cover enough broken??
Mrs Fluffy.
I have looked through the complete list of MBEs and cannot find a Mr Fluffy……….
Don’t they have a choice whether they accept an honour or refuse it?
I know that Knights and OMs do and as for the rest, presumably. But in the 1960s I really don’t know – I didn’t get the impression there was any choice – perhaps refusal earned you a black mark on your record!!!:(

For the uninitiated — who?
I’ll second that.
Great lads and they have given us all great pleasure for years. But aren’t all these honours a bit overdone? To his credit John Major tried to reduce them but we still see every year hundreds of people getting gongs for doing their jobs.
Gongs should be limited and only awarded for service “above and beyond” etc etc. Then they really would mean something. Knights are ubiquitous, and C, O and MBE’s are ten a penny.
I remember decades ago my boss in the then GPO got the statutory MBE after yonks of service and bemoaned the fact that he’d miss out a pay rise and he’d have to shell out on new gear for he and his wife so it would end up costing him money. He was not impressed!

What a beaut! All your own work from scratch? Were plans easily accessible?
If all the attendees of the Copenhagen summit are so all fired interested in reducing greenhouse gas emissions why did they not conduct the meetings by videophone? Yes I know that would mean some of them being up at silly hours of the night their time but if they were sincere and honestly interested in something other than being seen attending to make political brownie points that is what they would have done.
Largely because they are only interested in creating as much huff and puff as possible. And since none of them have taken the time to really study the pros and cons of the whole phenomenum they could not conceive of the summit being between 2 or 3 representatives of each nation by video link. Come on Mike, we are talking self-important politicians here, not normal, thinkig people!;)
