I still enjoy it. We all know it has little to do with motoring – it is an entertainment show and still entertains a few million people each week.

The BBC obsessed by ratings would be mad to pull the plug. They would only replace it with yet another “reality” show or celebrity garbage – anything to get 8 million plus.

They would certainly be left with 5 or 6 million disgruntled viewers. And with all the forms of media available they should be happy to have 5 or 6 miilion viewers for a programme.

Living near Heston airport as a child during the 1950s I was curious (but not curious enough to ask anyone) about a black fuselage that sat alongside the hangars on Cranford lane.

It has since been suggested to me that this could have been a Northrop Black Widow which was used by Faireys as a pattern for a naval prototype design which was cancelled at the end of WWII.

Does anybody have confirmation of this – or an alternative story? Does anyone know what happened to the relic which had vanished by sometime in the 60s?

Following a woman driver ( sorry girls ) through a series of narrowed accesses at about 2mph, because she had no idea of the width of her car.

Palin – Python – Ripping Yarns – The Missionary etc etc. Brilliant, but Palin and travel do not go together, for me. Celebrity travel is tedious and seldom informative, except at an “armchair level”.

Just sat through the French film ‘Merry Christmas’ which is a spell binding (based on truth) drama of the impromtu football game, between the trench’s involving the British (Scots), Germans and the French during 1914.

It got me thinking that there were probably more acts of none aggression in and around the Christmas period than just this one.

Can anyone think of instances during any conflict over the last 100 years of wartime aviation that compassion was shown during the Christmas period?

In fact the original truce between German and British soldiers happened on the front near Ypres in 1914. There were many others on different parts of the front and some lasted a few hours and some until New Year. The French/German truce happened a year later in 1915.
