I have been reading these exchanges without any knowledge of the details and it is sad that the airline has failed. In which case perhaps the rude dismissal of tommyinyork’s comments from some people were a little premature.

No doubt pages of opinion will follow but in my fairly long experience of business many criteria conspire to bring a company to its end but there is always one common and overriding factor and that is management. Good management anticipates problems and takes action early to mitigate them, bad management blunders on on a wing and a prayer but doesn’t act until it is too late.

I know, I was just explaining the reason for my being quite so… Err… Plain speaking! 🙂

PMN has expressed my view rather more forcibly than I feel, but nevertheless I would welcome a response from those who do support the strikers to hear what they believe the benefits will be and to whom. If there is no benefit, there is no point in striking.

So none of you don’t use it on actual heating? How do you BTW heat your appartments and houses in UK genrally? Each house has own boiler for oil or do guys have district heating there?

We, “guys”, heat our houses mainly individually by electrity or oil or gas or solid fuel. Many houses are centrally heated, many are not. Many centrally heated houses have solid fuel fires to augment the radiated heat. “District heating” also exists and blocks of flats aren often heated from a single boiler.

We can use the £250 however we want, a bit like our government uses our petrol taxes to add to the pool of tax rather than specifically on roads or public transportation.

Thanks to Moggy for bringing me up to date. And I too find it scandalous that in the 21st century there is not enough housing for those who do not have it. However with a small rider, which is that as evidenced by a couple of documentaries, in the past year or so, there is a minority who do not want to be housed. But I have no doubt that most do and should be.

Thank you, Moggy. I do remember that it had quite a strong political content at the time. How is the revenue from the magazine used? Does it financially help the homeless or generate profit solely for the publication of the magazine? Are the vendors remunerated from the sales? I will look out for a vendor when I am next in a more populous area.

I’ll have a go at a defintion…….

That should catch everything – including those that didn’t actually ‘go to war’ (EE Lightning) plus those that are still in service (C-47 etc).

And I suppose you could argue that the “warbirds” of the 60’s and 70’s went to war in that they were “fighting” the Cold War for 3 decades, quite apart from other localised conflicts in which they were keeping the peace.

A bit of indirect hose fire, sure – but only if there is a good reason for doing so (i.e. demolishing flower arrangements etc)! Generally, the cats around my area are fairly well behaved. A few years ago there were at least a dozen living locally, which was pretty bad. Loitering around the shed, looking shifty, vandalising flower beds, passing round the catnip…

Personally, I love cats. Mine is a Blue Persian (or a Persian Blue, depending on who you talk to) and she doesn’t go outside. She’s spent almost 8 years living indoors and, being a very sedate and eternally sleepy little moggy, I don’t think she’s lost out.

As for the suggestion that cats should be shot – Cleo is not impressed!
