Does anyone else buy this magazine regularly ?
Or have you never bought it and wouldn’t dream of doing so ?

Once, ages ago. If I am right the purchase is actually a contribution towards housing homeless people, isn’t it? Or was it originally and is now something completely different. It is rarely seen in our neck of the woods.

Honestly,young people these days know nothing.
The winter fuel payment is £250 if someone in the house is over 60.Since Mr. Bee and I are both over 60 ( chiz curses ) we get £125 each.
The £10 is the Christmas bonus paid to all pensioners and has stayed the same amount since it was introduced in the days when it could actually buy a bit more than the latest Snow Patrol CD ( which is where mine went ).
It hasn’t been cold enough for me to get an extra cold weather payment since I’ve been a pensioner.

‘fraid it’s true. If you get a pension you get a lump of money regardless of how flush you actually are. Some really need, some don’t. I give mine to a charity.

All BA depts understand and agree that there has to be changes, however from what I am told I understand that this is not a dispute about finance and more to do with WW wanting to break the CC and the Union.
I believe that proposals were put forward to management from the Union that would exceed the figure that management wanted to save, only to have them thrown out. It appears that WW and his management team have lost any respect from their staff and therefore I think that someone else should be brought in before the airline is run into the ground.

If you are right then I would agree but I don’t suppose BA would accept that reading. That is the difficulty, isn’t it, that the real problems remain half-hidden, neither side wants to compromise, although they probably say they do, so we end up with a stalemate which can only have one result.

From what I understand BA’s aircraft are overstaffed and cabin crews are well paid and well supported, compared to other airlines and are probably reluctant to accept reduced remuneration and conditions. Understandable. I wonder how many of the 90%+ plus who voted “yes” would also have voted “yes” if a 12 day strike had been included in the question.

Yup, sorry to admit it but, with half an eye elsewhere, I watch BBC from about 5.30 to 6.40, homing in on the stories which I want to watch as well as the business, sport, weather etc. I used to listen to Today’s hectoring smugness but it eventually switched me off. Before 5.30 and after 6.40 it is Radio 3.

It’s a cost/overtime cutting measure at weekends, they use the News 24 studio, instead of the Breakfast studio. Remotely operated cameras, smaller gallery crew, less demand for scenic crew as well. Although that said, I’m sure they still use two newsreaders at the weekend for the latter part of the show, normally Charlie Stayt and the delightful Susanna Reid.

The two newsreader set up comes from a perceived preference picked up in viewer surveys (AFAIK). The enduring popularity of the ‘tv couple’ which I think to be honest works very well, and besides would you like to read the news and interview people live on air for over three hours every day on your own ? 😮

No, probably not, since you ask! And as I only see the first hour, if that, of the Saturday broadcast, I would miss the addition of the “delighful Susanna Reid” later. I do often see her during the week as well. The Sunday broadcast has two from the start but, to me at least, less known names – perhaps the ‘B’ team. Anyway, they all do a pretty good job, whatever my personal prefernce might be.:)
