It’s a cost/overtime cutting measure at weekends, they use the News 24 studio, instead of the Breakfast studio. Remotely operated cameras, smaller gallery crew, less demand for scenic crew as well. Although that said, I’m sure they still use two newsreaders at the weekend for the latter part of the show, normally Charlie Stayt and the delightful Susanna Reid.

The two newsreader set up comes from a perceived preference picked up in viewer surveys (AFAIK). The enduring popularity of the ‘tv couple’ which I think to be honest works very well, and besides would you like to read the news and interview people live on air for over three hours every day on your own ? 😮

No, probably not, since you ask! And as I only see the first hour, if that, of the Saturday broadcast, I would miss the addition of the “delighful Susanna Reid” later. I do often see her during the week as well. The Sunday broadcast has two from the start but, to me at least, less known names – perhaps the ‘B’ team. Anyway, they all do a pretty good job, whatever my personal prefernce might be.:)

If a cat cannot be trained, how can someone stop a cat from doing what comes natural in someone’s garden?

By the owner being pro-active in preventing it access to neighbouring properties, as per earlier posts here, rather than their neighbour having to do so. Simple, isn’t it??!!:eek:

Not always as my garden can bear witness! This is a real opinion splitter isn’t it? I grew up with cats and quite like them but I do not like them distributing their largesse in my garden. So I can see both sides of the argument.

Effectively a domesticated cat is a wild animal, because it cannot be trained. I would say that it is incumbent on the owner of the cat to take steps to try prevent it annoying neighbours. But perhaps it is more likely to see pigs flying.;)

There will be much differing opinion on this subject and personally I just want an individual to read me the news and I don’t need one or more “personalities”. But, and this is one for Ren Frew, what is the thinking behind the Beeb’s breakfast policy of two presenters every day except Saturday, when there is only one? Bizarre.:confused:

Indeed, but I know from experience that industrial action is NOT taken lightly and large corporations seldom tell the truth in public, so therefore I have to wonder what’s beneath the surface.

Thanks for the link, although it doesn’t reveal a great deal more. It is the usual union/management conflict but my point is that it does not seem that the union are in a very strong position, in the sense that BA is not in a good state, like most other airlines, and so those who chose to strike, in what seem to be dubious circumstances, are surely in danger of putting themselves out of a job, without better prospects elsewhere. But more input from the forum will be interesting, particularly from union members who can tell us, not why they have voted to strike, but what they think they will achieve by going on strike.
