I totally agree and said so earlier. We are where we are in the UK thanks to the kneejerk reaction following Dunblane and subsequently Hungerford.
A large number of responsible law abiding citizens responsibly carrying out their hobby suffered because of the actions of two mad criminals. And despite all that followed criminals still acquire firearms and will continue to do so simply because the criminal determined to acquire and use a firearm illegally will always find a way.
The law does not deter those determined to break it.
I realise that my rationale could be used to argue for a fee-for-all. But that is, of course, not what I am saying. Good laws require a sense of perspective and thought for them to work well. We have far too many ill-thought out, rushed through laws passed on the hoof to address short-term concerns, which are difficult to enforce and/or over prescriptive.
