Sorry, but that is simply not true. There is an argument about the speed at which the digs take place but they only reveal what they have time to reveal. The digs are highly supervised and all the key participants are professional archaeologists and the actual archaeology uses trowels and similar implements only. If there are skeletons or any human remains nothing can be touched until the authorities are informed and forensic archaeologists attend the dig. All the artedfacts recovered go for cataloguing and many for ultimate exhibition and/or library storage.

All the JCBs are doing is clering the topsoil which is the method employed on any professional dig unless there are exceptionally believed to be artefacts in the topsoil.

From the visitor’s perpective, on the question of admission charges, I don’t resent them per se and am usually happy to pay a nominal amount anyway. But I am ALWAYS disposed to lob some coinage into a donation bucket and the better the experience the greater the value of the coinage.

ppp – so why should anyone want to recover it for no reward? I do not follow your logic. And you go onto say that you would propose destroying, what is effectively a war grave, to prevent theft.

He and Jimmy Perry provided most of us with so much laughter for so many years. And to think that Dad’s Army was initially turned down as being offensive to and belittling the Home Guard!! The joy is that we have the DVDs as a permanent legacy.

The two parts of that are contradictory. If the vast majority of the value is taken by the government then no private individual is going to recover it, are they? And the government is unlikely to do so. So your wish is unlikely to be granted. I think you shot yourself in the foot.
