So very sad.
My condolences to Mr Hollander’s family and friends.

ANYTHING is better than Bargain Hunt Live!!! :p 😉 😀
Another BBMF tale from me…visiting my parents who live near Cottesmore a couple of summers ago, and all sat round the dining table when we hear the unmistakable sound of Merlins…we all rush outside to the back garden just in time for PA474 to practically skim the roof of the house on her way back to Coninsby…talk about making the hairs on the back of my neck stick up! Just no sight or sound like it 🙂
I always enjoy reading threads like this, and look forward to the next installment, Moggy 🙂

Or is that just me? :p
Seriously though…I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…I’d rather see “a flying billboard” than a pile of rusted old metal which was once a Sea Vixen…

As eloquently put as ever, Kev, 🙂
I absolutely love these pics Moggy, the ones of the Lizzie and the Spit in particular 🙂
Snapper said: “The traders are all pissed off with Duxford – a book trader was telling me on Saturday that, having been at all the Duxford shows from the start, he is not alotted a single one this year. A friend of his, same story, but he has closed his business – Duxford shows were the bulk of his trade. Personally, I found the selection of stalls at the July do to be CRAP. And there was room for more. Duxford, are you listening?”
Well the “unofficial” ear of Duxford is listening…:)
As an enthusiast, I think the quality of stalls at Duxford has gone right down…I used to enjoy getting to the airshows early in the morning and browsing the stalls…I have found some wonderful gems – original WWII newspapers, 1st edition copies of WWII books, a beautiful wooden Spitfire, great priced Corgi models, lovely jewellery, big photographic prints and so on…
But the last couple of airshows I have gone home empty handed…I’m not saying that all the stalls should be aviation themed but there is definitely much less on offer to the enthusiasts these days (it’s not just what various stalls are selling, but the actual number of stalls seems to be right down)
I appreciate it is nice to have something on offer for the “ankle-biters” (although I do wish the Museum would not allow stalls to sell those p*** scooter things at airshows…I think those things are a menace and should not be allowed on site…
Just my two cents…

Yak11 Fan…quite true…I’m probably barred from the place :p
🙂 at Ant…well I don’t have the Archive and Records Management qualification they want so I’ve probably got no chance…and sorry I haven’t replied to your message yet, I keep being expected to do the w word which gets in the way of me spending time on the board…grrrrrrrr! 😉

Hey Anne 🙂 Thanks for the nod…I will have a think about this…
Errrrr…I thought U/S meant UnServicable? ~Confuzzled look~
Make that Shane Ritchie in a bin liner and I’m interested :p
Yes I know, I have no taste! 😀
If Shane is unavailable, I’d settle for Martin Kemp, or Sean Connery, or Justin Timberlake, or David Boreanez (spelling?), or James Marsters, or or or or or or :p 😉 😮
Oops! Mr Ashley is in a huff now! 😉

P.S. With regards to the original theme of this thread…I would rather see the Vixen flying in Red Bull colours than not at all…although I would prefer to see her in military markings…
Great pics, thanks Kev 🙂 I have never been to Cosford but hope to get up there sometime this year (there must be all sorts of nice aircraft for a Spitfire polisher to get her hands on there :p )
As far as Duxford’s TSR.2 goes, futurshox is quite right in that the cockpit section is empty…the aircraft remains pretty much in the same condition as it did when it arrived at Duxford from Cranfield, although we do have a few bits and pieces for her here (including an engine jig which is stored on the north side…I have a photo somewhere, I will see if I can find it and post it)
