[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-04-02 AT 11:27 AM (GMT)]Thanks for the link Moggy 🙂
Sadsack…last time I saw here she was making progress but there’s still a way to go by the look of things…
Likewise, I’m surprised at TFC buying another P-51 when they’ve already got Princess Elizabeth…I thought Stephen Grey was trying to fill gaps in his collection, not replicate them? But that said, it will be lovely to see another P-51 in the skies over Duxford…
Welcome to Duxford ‘Yellow Kilo’…I look forward to meeting you 🙂

I would love to know what happened to that P-51…as I said in my previous post I’m sure it’s now or was an airworthy example…with regards to the P-47, I believe that may be the one that is on display in the American Air Museum now…
And sounds like you have a great museum too 🙂
RE: Duxford
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-04-02 AT 04:53 PM (GMT)]Hi Elp 🙂
Well first off…with regards to the P-51, do you have any more information on that aircraft e.g. serial number or which hanger it was in? As the only P-51 the Imperial War Museum has on display is the one hanging from the ceiling from our branch in Lambeth Road, London, I am intrigued as to which Mustang this could be…I presume it must have belonged to one of the private owners such as The Fighter Collection or the Old Flying Machine Company…can anyone else help on this?
As for the B-52…well she is on display in the American Air Museum here at Duxford, taking centre place in the building…I believe there was some work carried out on her before she was moved into the AAM in 1997, I know she was given a complete repaint…
As for events at Duxford…well the best known events at Duxford are our airshows…the first airshow at Duxford this year will be the Jubilee Airshow on Sunday May 5th…among those scheduled to appear are the Lancaster, Blenheim, Spitfires, Hurricanes and the first post-restoration flight of the RNHF’s Firefly (fingers crossed!) In July of course is the world famous Flying Legends…two days of pure, unadulterated fun 😉 September sees “Duxford 2002”, another 2 day airshow, and last but not least, we have the Autumn Airshow in October…
Of course, airshows are not the only events held at Duxford…in August we will host the annual Military Vehicle Show…the sight of 200+ military vehicles racing down the runway is really something…
I don’t know when you last visited Duxford, but we have certainly expanded in recent years…we now have 180+ aircraft on display here (including those belonging to private operators), plus a significant number of tanks and other various military vehicles, most of which are on display in the Land Warfare Hall, including three of Monty’s caravans and his Staff Car…
Recent additions to the Duxford collection include a Tornado, F-15, SR-71, B-24, and a F-105 (at least I think that’s what it is…it’s hidden away in a corner in one of the Hangers!)…we are rumoured to be getting a Jaguar sometime this year, so Jaguar fans, watch this space!
Now I can’t think what else to write about…I hope the above info is of some interest…any questions, just drop me a line!

If anyone is really that interested…
I’m the one on the right in this photo…the FEMALE one 😉
RE: Kingcobra crash at Biggin Hill last year
On Friday 1st June last year…I watched the Kingcobra taxiing out at Duxford…then taking to the skies along with the Tigercat and Skyraider…the trio passed over the airfield and set course for Biggin Hill…
On Sunday 3rd, I watched many Duxford residents coming home…all but one…
Many a time I had stood and admired the Cobra…and patted her nose gently and lovingly…I still cannot believe that one of “my” aircraft failed to return…
RE: What is the greatest WWII fighter?

RE: History of air warfare – a 4 year olds view
Well…I believe that Firefly is due to make a welcome return for starters…not sure if she will be accompanied by her Stringbag friends…
The theme of the show is the Queen’s Jubilee Year, so expect to see lots of RAF aircraft past and present (hopefully)…I expect there will be appearances from Duxford residents such as the Blenheim…would be nice to see the Shuttleworth Lizzy too…no doubt the Harrier will be putting on a display, I wonder if anything else from the current RAF will appear…
Not sure about the Breitlings…the Corsair, Spitfire and P-40 were all “at home” in Hanger 3 yesterday afternoon looking sleek and shiny and “ready to go” save a few panels here and there, so here’s hoping they’ll be making an appearance 😉
RE: P-51D
Hi Raider…where did you read this? Does this mean TFC will have two Mustangs when Princess Elizabeth is up and running?

RE: Happy Easter
Kev…I visited Capel-le-Ferne on last Thursday morning…my fiance and I were the only two visitors there….the sun was shining…not a cloud in the sky…hardly a noise to be heard…so peaceful…and such a perfect memorial 🙂

RE: Happy Easter
Kev…in addition to those already mentioned by Rabie, there is the Battle of Britain Museum at Hawkinge, the Battle of Britain Memorial at Capel-le-Ferne (just outside Folkstone), the Brenzett Aeronautical Museum at Brenzett (between Ashford and New Romney)…Dover Castle is certainly worth a visit as mentioned by Rabie, there is a tour of the wartime tunnels ~ the commentary/tour follows a Lysander pilot who has ditched in the sea and has been brought to the underground hospital at Dover Castle…
Hope this helps!
