Ian…it is possible to have a discussion about utilitarianism without bringing religion into it. For those of you unfamiliar with the concept of utilitarianism, the basic principle of it is (or how I remember it) – choosing an action that does the greatest good, for the greatest number of people. For example, Britney Spear’s recent decision to put her singing career on hold can be seen as a good example – the greatest good being the relief her decision has brought to millions of ears worldwide 😀
Ha ha! 😀 Well next time you make sure you do…or we can have a cuppa in the Runway cafe or something 🙂
Barnowl…presumably you’re doing A levels? I did A level Philosophy and Theology, and utilitarianism was one of the big topics covered…was Peter somebody (possibly Singer
?) one of the speakers by any chance?
Found parts of the course very interesting, and thought-provoking, others harder to swallow…
Oh ******! 😀 😀 😀 I didn’t comprehend the Manchester bit :p
The GD Forum is another world.
Here sanity prevails – and you are as sane as the next man 😮
Moggy
Yep, it’s just the women who are nuts 😀
Glad to hear you’re feeling a bit more upbeat, roll on 2005 🙂
What do you mean “go”? 😀 Some of us went insane years ago 😉
Wibble
Anyhoo…RS = Religious Studies, yes? A religious studies field trip? What, you went to Stonehenge? 😀
One of my housemates at uni was the spitting image of Penfold 😀
Grrrrrrrrr! I understand how it feels to have some thieving little toad target your car all too well Melv, and I fully sympathise. I had it happen twice in six months right outside my house and it upset me greatly. Ok, I know a car is only a car, but I rely on it to get to work, to the supermarket, to go see family and friends, go to airshows etc etc…I work hard and have put a lot of money (on my salary) into a) buying the car, b) keeping it legal – insurance, tax, M.O.T. etc, c) keeping it going, and d) go go juice – also known as petrol 😀 Then some little punk thinks they can come along and just help themselves, or cause some damage for the sheer hell of it…
Hope you are able to sort things out….
Becka
Thanks for the suggestion Comet 🙂 I’ll have a gander.
Hand…I’ll have to check that – I usually just bung ’em in the PC and start the disc up without checking the format
SOC…one is on the Christmas wish list 😀
Oh and here’s the best bit I have July and August 2005 off the whole 2 months and I am getting my full wages, due to work being rebuilt totally and they want me to stay with them for a long time.
Bet your diary is already filling up…Flying Legends, Shuttleworth, RIAT etc etc 😀 😀 😀
Wow! Many thanks for sharing these, Laharve 🙂
Many thanks for your comments everyone 🙂
Steve…yes, the new village is a DEFINITE improvement on the old one…and life is far more chilled out for me now than it used to be 🙂
Oh and btw…when you popped down to Duxford with Julie for Remembrance Sunday, I thought you two looked “right” together, like you’d known each other for years and were really comfortable in each other’s presence 🙂 Hope continues to go in the right direction for you 😉
But is the world ready for such a revelation?
What’s on? Live coverage of a certain Rearwin’s first post-restoration flight? 😀
Pablo…I agree completely…it makes me laugh though, all these kids coughing up a fortune for these polyphonic and true tone ringtones – often at £3 a pop, when all you need to do is stick your favourite song on the stereo, hold your mobile up to the speakers, and press record…Voila! Your very own ringtones at no extra cost! 😀
