Errrrrrr…two double fatalities in two years? Now I was never good at Maths at school but two double fatalities = four deaths, yes? Only there have been three deaths in the last two years…now not that I am in the habit of nick-picking but can’t the dozy woman get her facts straight??? She clearly has no understanding of what the Lanc means to so many folks, to me it’s more than an aircraft, it’s a symbol…of the thousands of men who took off into the nightskies in aircraft like PA474, never to return…if it wasn’t for the sacrifice made by these men and the efforts of those who made it, I very much doubt Germaine Greer would have been able to publish and preach her writings/ideals like she has done over the past 30 odd years…
Now when the Lanc flies over MY house…it’s such a lovely sight and sound and I treasure seeing it…unlike Germaine “droopy ****” Greer ~Smirk~ 😉

Great pics all, thank you 🙂 Does anyone have any more pics of the lovely Lizzie?
And love the togs you and Mrs Damian-to-be are sporting Damian…originals or copies?

I am sorry guys and gals, I wish I had never started this one…my dear friend Kev, I am very sorry for dragging you into this one…as I said to you yesterday, having never used a wheelchair in my life, I did not want to assume the perspective of a wheelchair user and get it all wrong. I know you are more than capable of defending yourself, but I would just like to add to those who thought Kev was suggesting that just any old aircraft should be sectioned to allow access to wheelchair users…Kev is passionate about aircraft and the men and women who flew and serviced them – you only have to meet him to realise this (although you can see it in his posts anyway)
There are days when I wish I had kept my identity here a secret and this is one of them…I, like Kev am passionate about aircraft, and long before I graduated I had decided that I was not going to be stuck in an office in a city somewhere, I was going to get my foot in the door of one of the aviation Museums…Duxford was my first port of call, got the job and I’m still here…I will never claim myself to be an expert, I’m an enthusiast, who happens to work for the IWM…this means I can answer some of the questions people want to know what is going on at the Museum quite easily, and help them/push them in the right direction if they want to visit/use the services of our non aircraft collections…if someone asks me for some information I do my best to provide it (if I can)
I don’t always agree with the actions of the IWM…they make mistakes…we all do…but the Museum does do a heck of a lot of things right…and if some folks cannot see that then that’s their problem, not mine.
This really is the last response I am making on this…Kev and Moggy, you know where I am.

Tony C…the hell’s bells comment was tongue in cheek I assure you, nothing personal.I assure you 🙂

Sorry Doughnut…this is where we have to agree to disagree…although the intended fate of the Shackleton is indeed lamentable, in recent years the Museum has done some absolutely sterling work on some of the aircraft in it’s care…the lovingly restored Anson being the most recent to come to mind…
I have no desire to get into an argument with you or anyone else on the board, so I’m shutting up on this one.

Oh hell’s bells…not the suspending aircraft from the ceiling argument again :p
Tony…the layout set out in the illustration on display in Hanger 1 has been revised several times (and probably will be several times more) The last update I had on what was being suspended was that the Anson has been spared and the TSR.2 has been deemed too heavy…other than that I do not know…I didn’t think the Canberra was intended for suspension though…must do some more digging…

Bruce…how to get a second Concorde into Duxford nowadays is something I’ve been wondering myself…not got any answers to that one out of anyone yet…
IF Duxford gets a second Concorde and IF one is sectioned, I would much prefer it to be the BA example as I have already mentioned above.

Why shouldn’t wheelchair users be given access to an aircraft like Concorde??? Section a 747 because there are plenty of them, but they cannot get inside something like Concorde? I would be interested to hear what Kev35 thinks about this…
The Shackleton’s fate is sealed now…it is extremely regrettable that this is the case but we cannot spend all our time looking back and going “oh if only we had”…we have to look to the future and do the best we can for the aircraft in our care.
And if you think aircraft being cut up because “some PR guru thinks it will look good” then I am afraid you are mistaken…the Shackleton will be sectioned in order to preserve at least some part of the aircraft as opposed to scrapping the aircraft entirely (and please can we not have the old it should have been looked after properly years ago argument yet again, I’ve heard it all before and have nothing more to say on it) IF Duxford gets a second Concorde and IF one is sectioned to enabled wheelchair bound visitors to get inside an aircraft, it won’t be because the Director of Marketing has thought “hmmm what can we do for a bit more media attention here…I know, let’s cut a aircraft up and pretend we’re doing to look after our disabled visitors”…yes, doing so is likely to bring visitors to the Museum who might not have visited before which means increased income for the Museum, but cutting aircraft up is not just one big PR stunt to gain attention…

Approximately 17,600 on the Saturday, just over 17,000 on the Sunday (the exact figures escape me at the moment)

P.S. The biggest ever attendance at Duxford was the VJ Day anniversary show in 1995 with approximately 40,000 attendees…closely followed by the Spitfire 60th Anniversary show in 1996 with approx 35,000 attendees…cannot remember the figures for the Battle of Britain show in September 2000, think a similar number to the Spitfire show attended, but not me, who was stuck in bed with glandular fever 😡
Done a little digging and found a little more on the Concorde rumour…seems it is a possibility that IF BA does gift Duxford with one of the Concordes, the prototype could be sectioned to give our visitors in wheelchairs the opportunity to get in an aircraft, which to me is a good idea as none of our aircraft/aircraft sections are currently accessible by wheelchair users (although I wish they would do it with the BA one, not the prototype)
Ashley
Well seeing as Concorde is our most popular exhibit I really cannot see that happening…I’m guessing that because Duxford is rumoured to be seeking one of BA’s Concordes, another rumour seems to have started that our prototype will be scrapped if we get one of the BA examples 🙁
As I said I am sure this is just a rumour (yet another one) So can we just stop this here please?

SR71Habu183…the general plan is to build around the framework of the existing Hanger…it will expand sideways with a large extension overlooking the airfield…
I for one will be very interested to see where they put those 32 aircraft while the new hanger is being built 🙂

Well…
1) Construction is due to begin at the end of 2004 with completion scheduled for summer 2006 (I am due to attend a meeting tomorrow regarding the project so will find out for sure)
2) Not certain about that one…I know plans are currently being finalised to work out what goes where while the building work goes on
3) Answered above
Hope this helps, if I get any further info tomorrow, I will let you know.

As a female, personally I have no problem with images like this (after all, I’ve got two of what Jordon’s got, only not quite as overinflated as hers, so I’m not going to get too excited about seeing a pair of breasts:p) I’ve never been able to see why women get so worked up about girls like Jordan, and porn in general…I don’t buy the argument that porn exploites women full stop…yes, I am sure it happens, but I am pretty sure that a huge number of women who go into the porn industry do so with their eyes wide open, and do very well for themselves financially…
Although I certainly did not have a hippy upbringing (my parents were pretty firm but fair) my mother in particular taught me not to have hang-ups about my body, and other people’s bodies…male or female…to me a pair of naked breasts is just that…ditto the male lunch box…seen one, you’ve seen them all really…maybe I’m not right in the head, but these sort of pics just don’t seem obscene to me…
Obscene is child porn, animal porn, extreme torture, Gareth Gates…not a picture of Jordon’s breasts…
HOWEVER… I do agree this forum is maybe not the place for images like this (as wysiwig has already agreed) as some of our members are under 16 (although I bet some of them have already got their hands on a magazine or two already :))
