Close up of SL721
Avro Lincoln – Southend
Here is a picture taken (by Steve Williams) at Southend of Lincoln RF342. I found it on Airliners.net. Any ideas as to when this Lincoln was taken dissembled?
These Lincoln RF342 parts have almost Ghost like quality!! you hear lot’s about them but no pictures are ever seen!!
I would really be quite interested in seeing some of what still exists in the UK.
Was KB976 modified to a long nose version by the RCAF?
Lancman.
I have a few pictures/posters on my Lancaster wall (yes a wall tribute to the plane..my wife is ok with this as long as it is not seen by anyone important…)..anyway one is of Sugar’s cockpit taken maybe in the 1980’s,, it does look very original when compated to the BBMF or Duxford cockpits..still “Sugar” does a real honest worn look to her.
Are the engines restored or where they left as is?
Just pop those Bristol-Siddeley Olympus back in and connect your batteries up and voila!!
Seriously are the costs so high just to reassembly the aircraft to taxing condition?..all the parts are servicable and on hand!! It should be a doable with the right suport.
Hendon Sugar
Anyone seen what she looks like inside. Is she more or less complete? as I know some former gate guardians can be sometimes just a shell!
Yes Duxford’s Lancaster is an excellent looking restored Lancaster. Why do I see it often on “jacks” supporting the airframe? Is this part of any on going maintainance program?
Too bad about the Hastings..she looked great for a while but the colours are starting to fade again..(one of my fav’s four engine classics)..
An expansion has been in the works for many years now but so far it has been delayed with Government cutbacks etc.
The storage area is very much packed in these days!!
Canada Aviation Museum
Sat,
Yes there is a Komet, 109, Hurricane, Spitfire, Lysander and Mustang..all surrounding the Lancaster…Did anyone mentioned this museum sort of ran out of space a few years ago..
We also have an ex-India Airforce B-24 Liberator, ex RCAF B-25 Mitchell, DC-3 and C-47, Canadair Argus, Canadair Northstar…lots
to see.
Lancaster’s Down Under
Is there are developments with the Lancasters downunder.
Namely NX622 Western Australia
and
NX665 Auckland NZ..
Any chance these will be maybe restored any further..say
to ground running condition! I think one been working on
the engine to turnover on electrics.
Yes,
I think that pretty much covers our museums in Ontario.
CHWH Hamilton
TAM Toronto
CAM Ottawa
We also have a few smaller museums. The RCAF Museum at Trenton is interesting also, mainly due to the restoration of the Halifax.
I was at an airshow in the States(NY) a few years back and three B-17’s were displaying..two were clean as can be…but the third was very oil covered..it’s cowling very dripping in oil. It added to the whole realism of the show. The spray covered both wings behind the engines and extended back the tail.. It looked like it
can just returned from a Berlin bombing mission.
The aroma of burnt oil and av gas was intoxicating..perfume for plane geeks
True,,
I think most would prefer to see the Lancaster displayed in the WWII colours and configuration
I am however looking forward to seeing the French restoration of Lancaster NX664 in her final colours. That blue will look very sharp…
Post War Lancaster
True the post was Lanc’s did have many mods. Some turrets were removed and blanked off…..and cameras and other equipment would be added..
