Any idea of the paint scheme planned for the Viscount cockpit?

Glad to hear that the Varsity is going under cover. Perhaps a repaint is in order for it also. How much sq foot is the new hangar supposed to be? enough for maybe 5-6 airframes?:)

Any one had a chance to see the Avro Ashton WB491 at Newark? Is that an empty fuselage or ? is there some interior left inside?

How will XX885 be capable of getting a permit to fly when the CAA were not willing to get XW986 one?

Any news on FAST getting XX894 to static run yet? Must be quite a few runners and potential runners out there..at YAM, Gatwick, Bruntingthorpe etc?

Is XX897 capable of static runs?

Very interesting..I am guessing that we will no longer see these
sorts of deals to be offered in the near future. Once you acquire an airframe do they actually give you title to that plane..kinda like an owner papers for a car?

Our process in Canada seems to be quite different. It is usually handled by outside organizations but I have seen private individual manage to acquire military airframes for static display..

    Thanks for the info Vulcan,

Was the public invited to bid on the remaining airframes? or was that limited to Museums, organizations? and was the price determined by the group involved.. i.e. a museum might acquire an airframe for a 1$? while other private individuals might be charged 5K?

    Last flyers

The last 50 Sqdn flyers will do..Do they make up the majority of the those preserved today in museums?

How many Vulcan were in service at the time when they decided to disband the sqdn in 1984?

    Woodford Vulcan

Speaking of Taxiing Vulcans..is the Woodford Vulcan XM603 capable of moving under it’s own power or do they limit it to static engine runs? I heard that the public are no longer allowed to see the engine runs either. is that due to H&S reason or insurance? or both?

What ever happened to all those Cockpit section used on the
Sci Fi film “Wing Commander”? I understand that quite a number of Lightning Cockpit sections were used to create fighter ships and that most were purchased from marine salvage.

Many souvenirs hunters have been thru that Vulcan…

But we are able to restore a wreck of a Spit or Hurricane that has been pulled out of Russian . It may only be a few parts and a data plate why can’t we save something like this. It is complete structure wise. Just need a few parts and $$ to complete..

I would hope that other Vulcans currently preserved/stored outdoors don’t end up in this similar condition.

I am guessing that quite a number of Vulcan were made available to different museums or organizations in the early 80’s, when the RAF decided to retire them. And except for a lucky few, most are kept outdoors. Even two of the taxiable ones XL426 and XM655 are kept in very fine operational conditional with no permanent hangar being available. Some other Vulcans some of
their electrical systems still alive while others have been sealed up for good. And others looks much like the Blackpool Vulcan.!

Of the remaining static Vulcans stored outdoors which seems at present to have the most secure future if kept outdoors?

Newark’s Air Museum always looks good.

And one more quick question to ex RAF types..how often did the RAF paint the Vulcan while in service?
