Yes I have seem much displeasure about the treatment or lacking of perservation of that airframe in past forum posting. I am guessing it has been painted black on black at least once since it was brought to Canada.
Still it being one of so few surviving airframes (1 of 8 occuring to the flypast column) It could have been disassembled and stored.
I wonder how complete it is internally..I had a good look at it two weeks ago..It’s tires are now badly out of shape since it was moved(Fall 2002)… and it is pretty sealed up with tape and paint.
Thks for the info.
Other possible Stirling Airframes
I am sure that I had read about other crashed Stirling aircraft that are currently in deep water.. maybe one day someone will get motivated $$ and savage one..but hopefully with better luck that the German FW Condor that was recovered a few years ago!
Stirling Cockpit Project
Maybe they could combine the RAF Museum’s Stirling wreckage with the Stirling Cockpit Project (which is processing nicely) and voila…a Stirling is create or recreated!
Doesn’t the French also have some Stirling fuselage sections too!
Midlands Museum
Hi All,
I had a chance to visit the Aeropark a few years just after they moved. It is really nice collection and the volunteers were very friendly and helpful. They allowed access to photograph the Varsity, Argosy and Canberra Cockpits..I would have visited their Vulcan too but they didn’t have the keys that day. They kept me chatting in the right side seat for almost an hour..
It is also a great place to plane spot the local East Midlands Air Traffic..
Two Thumbs up!!

RE: Airspeed Oxford
Canada’s Aviation Museum also has a Consul in their inventory.
Registration #: G-AIKR (UK)
Manufacturer: Airspeed Limited, England
Manufacture Date: 1945
Construction #: 4338
Aquisition Date: 1965
The museum example was converted from Oxford to Consul in 1946 and flew commercially with various owners until purchased by the Canadian War Museum in 1965
RE: British Canuck?..Update on Lancaster KB944
Hi Peter,
Sorry but I had been off the board for awhile.. I should have some info about KB944 soon. I have not forgot about your inquiry.
Just got my VHS tapes of “Just Jane” great stuff..with her fast taxi runs and the tail off the ground. I wish I could have seen a taxi run when I visited the centre a few years ago..
Here is a question for the Canadian Lancasters. Of those kept currently outdoors, which is in the best shape? Of the four I think
perhaps Windsor’s(badly fading) and Calgary(new primer) are the most complete..with Edmunston NB looking not too bad(new paint in early 90’s) and Greenwood’s getting new paint a few years ago but just really a shell of an aircraft.
Any options? anyone
Ottawa CF-100’s
Yes Peter,
The do have three in collection with #100785 on loan to CWHM (it was stored outdoors in Ottawa) so I am glad that the boys at CWHM have done an excellent job on it’s perservation. Picture was taken at Hamilton Airshow static display.
#18752 needs some cleanup but looks in pretty decent shape considering how long is was displayed at CFB Uplands. Will look great displayed outside museum entrance!
And #100757 is preserved and looks very nice , much the way it did when it arrived at the musuem in 1979

RE: GOOD NEWS. Canada Aviation Museum Restorations
Guys,
Anychance the group would be interested in nonskilled help. I am not
trained in the aerospace industry but I would be willing to put some sweat and tears in seeing those old girls returned to their former glory!
And I think a few of us would love to see those merlins sing again..but we would have to remove the bird’s nests for the exhaust stubs first!!
RE: Canada Aviation Museum Collection – the Lib
Opps I think it might be CF-100 #18752
RE: Canada Aviation Museum Collection – the Lib
Peter,
Those wings belong to a former CF-100 CFB Uplands gate guardian. I think it is #18434. It is to mounted at the entrance to the museum in the future sometime. The rest of the airframe is hidden on the far side of the museum…
RE: Canada Aviation Museum Collection – the Lib
Yes they do have a web site.
sitehttp://www.aviation.nmstc.ca/eng/english_home.html
I did read at sometime that the museum was having a difficult
time locating correct engines for the restoration and therefore
they chose not to start anytime work on the airframe until such time.
The museum has quite a the collection of engines so I am sure that a trade could be sorted out if they were really interested in doing it?
Are these Britol Radials rare these days compared to P&W radials?
I kind of wish that a Canadian Museum had a B-17 in it’s collection.
With some many in the States and none in Canada. It seems a shame that we couldn’t have one restored. Like the one found in Labrador Did any Canada Forces use the B-17 during or after WWII?
RE: Canada Aviation Museum Collection – the Lib
Yes Charles the Beaufighter is a touchy subject with many of the
local aircraft fans. I like many others have been visiting for the museum since the 70’s and are very disturbed at it’s deteriorating condition but enought said. I am hopeful that one day something will be done with their Viscount, Argus, Beaufighter, Northstar, DC-3 etc..
It was sad this year when they were unable to open to the public, one of the favourites at the Museum, the “Argus” due to health hazard.. apparently the mold was making it unsafe for visitors and staff.
Please hurry up and start the expansion!!
