This image is of a Bf-109E-7 of III./JG27 photographed at Svretv-Vrax airstrip on the Kresna Pass in Bulgaria 1941 just prior to the Balkans Campaign. III./JG 27 carried their individual aircraft number on the nose of the aircraft which is why none is carried on the fuselage.

I saw the plane in the late 80’s and the owner Robs Lamplough assured me that it ” was beyond restoration” and having inspected the airframe the only area beyond curiosity value was the wings and the skins were ‘hors combat’ in Robs words on the internals offered some hope. So from memory of what I saw we are looking at for a ‘flyer’ a replica with most if not all of the fuselage sourced from modern production and the wings and tail feathers less than 50% original structure (if one includes skins as structure as one must). Therefore the best Meier’s can produce is a reproduction with some original parts similar to the reproduction flyer, N342FH with FHC Seattle in the United States.

Whatever, it will be great to see a Bf-109E shape in the sky but it will NOT be an original airframe.

Rip out the Merlin and put a DB up front. Having a Merlin powered Bf 109 is like having those truly awful Renault engined Nord 1002’s masquerading as Bf 108’s, sorry 109’s at airshows in the eighties. Anybody remember that twin engined Aero-something laughably palmed off as a Heinkel He 111!!! I remember falling about when I first saw it.

Messerschmitt Bf 109’s have DB’s. No DB: then paint them in Spanish AF colours.:D

Hawker Hunter on a low loader west bound on the A43 near Towcester.
Couldn’t see too much, on other carraigeway! Seemed to be static condition.
