A compilation video featuring a variety of aircraft movements filmed at the now closed Manston/Kent International airport between 2009 and 2013.

I have decided to go back and re-edit my old Heathrow HD footage filmed between 2009 and 2014. I have made a new series of compilation videos called “Heathrow Heavies” The link to part one is below, featuring many aircraft that can no longer be seen at LHR.
Movements at Manston are very hit and miss, probably your best bet is FlyteComm (http://www.flytecomm.com/cgi-bin/trackflight) and see if that shows up anything. The only regular movement seems to be a CargoLux B747F on Tuesdays that arrives around lunchtime and departs around 2pm. There are normally also a few light planes and helicopters doing circuits plus an occasional biz jet (last time I was there there was a biplane doing circuits!).
As far as I know MK airlines, once a Manston regular have got rid of all their DC-8’s. One of them is currently parked up out the back looking the worse for wear, pic via the link below.
Went on airliners and found that Fokker pic is number one in the photagrphers choice.
Good job mate.
Thanks, just found out myself. I was amazed that it even got past the screeners let alone make it to the front page! They seem to reject everything else I send them. Remember you saw it here first 😀
Thanks for your comments guys.
Just read on another forum G-BYAB came back from Garuda after a short term Hajj charter and was then withdrawn at Luton. Is apparently due to leave imminently for parting out. RIP G-BYAB 🙁
Nice shots. It’s a lot better than the current, very dull Air France livery.
I’ll take it back, if you think I’m being overly-complimentary.
Don’t take it back, it’s the best compliment I had in ages and it really made my day. It’s nice to know that fellow enthusiast appreciate your work, it makes all that waiting around in the cold worthwhile! We can all improve and learn from each other, that’s half the fun. It’s just when I see some of the amazing images on airliners and jetphotos I feel I still have a long way to go.
All the best, Tony
Fantastic shots there. The BA 747 is my pic of the bunch!! Do you have any higher res shots?
There are some bigger images (presume that’s what you mean by high res) of the above on my fotopic pic site, just click on the link below. They may even appear on some well known aviation picture sites if they manage to get past the sceeners :p
Take it easy Lad…they’re good shots but I wouldn’t go that far!!!
I would second that, I have a long way to go to get to the level of the likes of Steve Morris and co, or any number of other posters on this forum come to think of it!
Tony 😀
Thanks for your comments Cloud 9 😮
You are right about the Emirates time keeping which is abysmal. On this day it left around 14:15 which is not too bad, has been over an hour late departing some days.
My cold is still hanging on but I am over the worst hopefully
Thanks all for your kind comments. The tail fin shot was made possible after BAA took down the old perimeter fence recently near the Esso garage, also gives a clear view of the T5 building.
Nice selection of images there arkrailuk, liking the EK A380 ones and that of the Cargolux at MSE is great too…mind me asking whereabouts you stood when you took this particular shot?
Hi Cloud 9
Thanks for your kind comments. I have marked the spot where I stood for the Manston Cargolux shot on the map below, a small lane called Laundry Road off the A299, hope this helps. You need a long lens for the shot though, at least 400mm.

I would recommend the Uniden Bearcat UBC3500XLT. It’s a little complicated to set up but a great scanner once you are used to it. As regards the legality issue, why is it legal to buy a radio that can pick up airband transmissions but not legal to listen to them? If the powers that be really wanted to stop people listening in surely they would ban or licence the radios.
As an aside, I have heard of people being prosecuted for having police frequencies stored in the radios memory so be careful what you store!
A winglet only makes money when at cruise altitude. Therefor, the longer a plane flies at cruise altitude, the more time there is to earn back the investment and additional expenses (extra weight, maintenance etc). A turbo-prop typically flies short hops only, and therefor is not at cruiselevel long enough to warrant the investment.
The 747-400D (domestic) is not fitted with winglets for this very reason as it specifically designed for high density short haul flights.
Great shots, love to se the old 62’s, sorare these days to get a glimpse. Who was on the American Airforce 2? (just a guess at the callsign lol)
No idea who was on Airforce 2 but the IL62 was apparently carrying a Russian delegation attending a UK conference about plastic trays
