Thanks Gary for posting this.
This year’s Open Day should be bigger and better than ever with a few aircraft confirmed as displaying including we hope the P-51D Mustang Marinell (we are very grateful to Maurice Hammond). Also we hope to show some progress with one of our P-51 projects and Gary Dean’s magnificent P-51 will be in attendance as well as the usual selection of military vehicles and re-enactors.
We will also be showcasing much of the progress on the restoration of the original airfield buildings.
Look forward to seeing you there.
Cheers
Jason
As Gary says any help greatly appreciated. Our old site at Tunbridge Lane is being demolished and we want to save as many of the fixtures (windows, doors, light fittings, switches, toilets, basins etc) and fittings as possible. We can then use them at the new site on Wilbraham Rd which we hope to make as original as possible. Please get in touch if you can be of any assistance – jasonwebb@bottishamairfieldmuseum.org.uk
Please see these artist impressions of our new buildings.

I presume you are talking about the Musee de bataille de Normandie .From memory photos used to be permitted – the museum has gone through a lot of changes and the aviation room was much reduced on my last visit. They used have to have a magnificent Spitfire Mk IX crash diorama a few years back.
Found this photo from 2004 which may show part of a cannon??

If you ever fancy parting with it please let us know. We need one of these for our P-51 cockpit – one of the few pieces that is now eluding us.

and did we mention that a P-51 Mustang will be displaying at Bottisham for the 1st time since 1944 😎
We have been told to try Tariff code 9705000090. Nil duty, maximum of 5% VAT – this is for collectibles.
We are currently appealing – will see how we get on.

The value was about £5K – import was handled via TNT.
Haven’t tried Cambridge Chamber of Commerce.
Are these items exempt – or have I been given the wrong gen?
I consider myself very fortunate to have seen Stuart’s spit in the flesh – its stunning!!! Something for us all to aspire to. Also he’s incredibly generous and helpful to others as well. Looking forward to seeing this progress.

Superb thread & very thought provoking.
Soaking it up as we at the Bottisham Airfield Museum will hopefully be able to announce some very positive developments shortly.
Cheers

Tony,
Do you want to pop in for a coffee – would be good to talk P-51’s – I live just behind the American Air Museum.
J
We haven’t as yet secured it.
We are bidding against another party and the highest bidder will win.
Tony you are welcome to measure it if we do win it – IWM’s P-51 currently has its windshield off and is also available for measuring/photographing. Need to speak to you in regards to the ribs.
FACEBOOK ! oh god why when you have a dedicated forum etc, I dont get it.
Great find though
Thanks Gary.
For those not on facebook this is the windshield we are trying to buy for our P-51 Mustang project.

Any support greatly appreciated.

Regarding the shack my understanding is that they were worried about corrosion around the undercarriage and the possibility of the airframe collapsing whilst being moved. Hence have taken some of the bits off it to lighten it. As I understand it is way down their priority list for restoration.
Planes can be rebuilt as long as you are ok that’s the main thing.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
