Normandy
High moggy,
Am off to Normandy on Thursday – have you come up with much gen on what is going on over there – the official websites (Normandy memmoire etc) are a little vague & hint at some fairly draconian restrictions for travel on the 5th & 6th.

A2’s at Duxford
You might see this one around at Duxford as I live just across the road.
It is a copy of Capt. Walter J Kozicki.’s A2 of the 376th Fighter Squadron, 361st Fighter Group see http://www.littlefriends.co.uk/361stfg-gallery.jsp for the original.

The Men who flew the Memphis Belle – by Bob Morgan.
Very readable indeed.

Don’t get me started on blue versus OD – the blue is a complete myth.
Other favourite is OFMC’s “Ferecious Frankie” – painted correctly on OD with information provided by 361fg.com.

Mitchells do fly in IMC
The documentary was called Mitchells do fly in IMC – don’t think it is available commercially.

Don’t think there are any plans for her – I understand TFC did have a look at her but the high price and the fact that apparently she has blown hydraulics have put people off.
Would be lovely to see her fly in the UK with a 361st Fg yellow nose.

No reply from Duxford
Just a quick note to say that Duxford have not replied to my e-mail of the 20th August asking them to clarify what their position is over aerobatics at future airshows.
It is a great shame that they cannot take the time to communicate with the people who support and visit their museum. I can’t say it surprises me though.
Very Best Regards

Excellent news
Great news these are in the public domain – congratulations to everyone involved.
Very Best regards

We can debate the pro & cons of aerobatics for ever.
What concerns me is can you see the likes of Ray Hanna & Stephen Grey wanting to carry on if aerobatics were banned – what effect would there departure have on the warbird scene?
Would the incentive to restore these expensive types be there for the Maurice Hammond’s of this world if they knew the envelope they could fly these magnificient restorations in would be severley limited?
Also I think attendances at airshows would dip – my reasoning behind this is that the public are looking for a spectacle, they may not appreciate the difference between one maneover or another or the difficulty involved – but they do want to be entertained and see something out of the ordinary – I think the public would become quickly bored with flat dispays – us enthusiasts may or may not because we can fully appreciate the history behind the aircraft but the general public are different.
Ducking my head back down behind the parapet…

The Way forward??
Obviously not much is known yet about the IWM’s official position – I was hoping someone who was in the know might have the inside track on whether there was a ban in the offing.
I have e-mailed the IWM today asking for clarification of their position as to act on speculation would be premature.
However it seems to me if a ban is proposed perhaps those of us who are against it could launch some sought of counter campaign (perhaps in conjuction with some of the operators at Duxford).
What worries me the most is the hysterical coverage in the media – I for one will be writing to the Cambridge Evening News tommorrow to severley criticise their coverage.
Why don’t they cover they put the number of car accidents, rapes, burglaries etc on the front page of their newspapers.
Just my late night ramblings – what do think??

Dedication
I understand a new dedication took place just before the last bank holiday in May – I think veterans of the 355th FG were present and possibly the Duke of York?????
Moggy
We really should stop not meeting like this – first Madingley now Old Warden – wherever next – I will be at Duxford next Sunday for the large model association flying display!
Cheers
Jason
