It ended up being a display which was given as a NOTAM, ended up being 15 mins later than planned due to the previous weather. Also anyone see the Sentinel on Friday which completed about 5 circuits 🙂

    Thanks, Sismore

    harriers service life nearly over

by the sound of things as the harrier has only 1 hole month of service in afganistan before the tornado takes over there will be no real need for them and so i think they will be retiring the harrier fleet sooner than we thought?

or leave them in service as back up untill the F35 II replacment is here ??

as we already know that the harrier fleet is decreasing as they are being used more than they were built for and dropping out of the skies… fair enough not many but a few recently due to failures etc.

So really i think it will be soon goodbye harriers !

    the harrier future

well when the harriers are pulled out of afganistan for the tornados i think that will be nearly time up for these jets before the F35 replaces them. I think some of the bases which base the harriers may be bound for closure unless the f-35 aircraft replaces them or other aircraft types.

i think wittering is the most likly to close from raf duties and turn to a army barracks or something

    any opinions on this matter?

    thanks

after the reds have now finished the detachment to waddington do you think it is worth moving them even if they still are going to practice over scamptons airspace why not leave them there?

the air cheif of fairford has said that the boggy ground could of been prevented if cars were allowed on hard surface but the americans rejected parking on the hard surfaces for security reasons. so he has said that if it means that to prevent the show to be cancelled like this again it would be the best thing to move riat from its home faiford to another base… but there is not a base that could hold the show exept raf cottesmore in rutland. but after the success of the 200/2001 show the parking is still in feilds so even though it did not rain here over the week and weekend of this years show it still is a risk of cancellation…. so he is having discussions with the usaf to see if there could be a solution than move the show

the next base after cottesmore if it was to move may be waddington which could mean the waddington show moving to cottesmore or faiford as a replacement.. so the future of riat at fairford is still not fully clear

this is not made up so please take this bullitin… i know it is hard to beleive

if you need proof buy a copy of “Aircraft” illistrated for 3 pounds 80 form WH smiths or other magazine stores and there is a full artical on this

    thanks

Cottesmore, just up the road from me 🙂

Same here I live near too, it should return to Cottesmore I say.

But this was true that the USAF are worried about security parking on the hard surfaces and that to stop the show being cancelled in the future, they may have to move the show from RIAT to soemwhere with hard parking or a less chance of cancellation.

For proof of this is true buy the copy of septembers issue of “Aircraft Illustrated” magazine from Ian Allan publishers.

    Thanks again,
