That would be MiG-31M, but, it won’t be R-33’s, but R-37’s.

    Thanks a lot Barkut 🙂

Which MiG-31 version can carry 6 R-33s under the belly?

I dont think Italian has electronics to contribute to next generation AWACS otherwise Sukhoi would have employed them on Superjet/MS-21.

Italy produces many intersting systems, mainly ECMs and ESMs… do you know Elettronica and Selex Galileo? 😉

i’m not too convinced about mounting a radar on a prop plane with all the potential interference.. but then again Erieye could be mounted on an Embraer!

curious to how the erieye compares to the G550 AEW

The G550 CAEW is way better!

    It:
    – flies higher
    – flies longer
    – looks farther

    P.S.: without considering that’s faster!

What’s the detection range of the original RDY?

All RuAF SMTs are ex-Algerian, though not all of them were even delivered yet AFAIK before the deal broke.

Thank you TR1 😉 I believed that some MiG-29s were upgraded to the SMT standard before the (broken) algerian deal…

    Can anyone identify the bomb?

    Is that an ex-algerian airplane?

Is the F-18E faster than an A-6E at sea level?

Yes, it is (not only in the clean configuration).

Does anyone know if Raptor can supercruise with 2 EFTs?

IMO, it looks like a Gripen. However, what does it really matter if its a Rafale or Gripen? What exactly does it prove? That one is “better” than the other, based on a single HUD camera shot?!

    I absolutely agree. 😎

Bogdan himself has said they have achieved supercruise in Su-35S. Regarding Rafale:

    http://siae.netdirect.fr/2011/sites/actu/docs/3-vol/fiches2011/Rafale_G-B.pdf

    Thank you for the link.

This explains why in Singapore the Rafale failed to demonstrate a credible supercruise capability.

I think it was evaluated with two or three EFTs: if 1 EFT reduces the supercruise by 0.2 M, considering the much higher drag in the transonic regime, multiple EFTs make it impossibile at all.

what speed and lay out can Rafale and Su-35S supercruise at.. if at all (i know some like to make claims of doing so).

    in comparison to the TYphoid

Typhoon can reach and sustain much more than Mach 1 without using the afterburners.

With the so called war set of the engines, taking off with a full internal fuel load and even if for a short time, it can sustain 1.5 Mach in a clean configuration, while with 3 EFTs it still can go supersonic and reaches 1.2 M. In peace time conditions, without stressing the propulsion system, the Typhoon exceeds 1.3 M in clean configuration and remains transonic with 3 EFTs. These data are referred to an approx. FL 400.

Rafale is a great supercruiser too.

At 20.000 feet, with 4 MICAs and a 1250 litre EFT, it can sustain 1.2 Mach – as a French pilot said in an interview. Without EFTs, with the same air-to-air load and at a higher altitude, it reaches 1.3 M. With future M88-3 engines, it is said the Rafale will be capable of sustaining 1.4 M with a missile load of 6 MICAs – a considerable performance indeed.

Su-35… is a mystere, at least for me.
