I am located not a million miles away from STN and noticed that aircraft also. I am fortunate in having a very powerful set of ‘binos’ with a zoom to match. The aircraft looked like a Cessna 404 or similar and appeared to have a dark panel/aperture beneath the fuselage centre section. Did not look like an Islander. Hope this helps.
A fire truck rushing to its stand by position toppled over, no injuries occured, the truck received serious damage however.
Geez, some days you should just give it a miss 🙁
Glad incident ended safely.
One thing i have to say about all this mess…if it is true that the israeli commados were attacked with knifes bats and whatnot ,why they didnt shoot at the legs ? They were never shot at . Why did they shoot to kill ?
But me i would take whatever the israelis have to say with a grain of salt . They were very good at deceiving , thats for sure.
I still think the aid convoy was well-intended ,even if to deliver a message, as despite what the israelis say , the situation in Gaza is appaling , i meen me and you here in the west live very well in our nice houses , driving nice cars and enjoying nice luxuries( like computers ) , but those folks in Gaza actually dont have what to eat and dont have where to live ( after the IAF bombed them) because of the israeli blockade. Do any of you would like to live in Gaza now ?
Oh and i see some folks invariably throw the antisemitism coin around . Yeah right , the whole world is a big conspiracy against the poor jews , bla bla bla …what a load. Get real folks.
The fact that fully justified and real condemnation is made regarding what the israelis are doing in Gaza and Palestine doenst meen that those peoples are the mean evil antisemites. It meens that there is actually something wrong whit what the israelis do.
I see that the commandos that killed the peoples from Marmara are up for medals , funny i would think of a court martial and jail. Unfortunately , i doubt the israelis would really be facing consequences for what they did , because the big US brother is watching them . Just like they do with the nukes .Gotta love double standards…
Oh and again , no , what i said above does not make me an antisemite, despite what some folks might think , or want to think . I just hate human hypocrisy , thats all .
I hope my post here is not over the top …if so sorry , just tried to write down what i think …
Could not have put it better myself. Except to say that I read recently that Turkey paved the way for Israel to gain admittance to the OECD when other countries did not want to know……well Ankara,. now you know who your ‘friends’ are. A lesson well learnt I hope although much kudos for the stand that the Turks have made.

The Korean episode just looks like poor airmanship, but then we are talking Korean Air 😉 The LCY video speaks for itself and is obviously weather induced.
A thought that I’ve often had with these kinds of incidents, and others that I’ve seen on video, TAP A320, LH A320 and others is when do you as a pilot give up with an approach thats obviously turning into a ‘box of frogs’, swallow your pride and try again or divert. I realise that most crews use their accumulated experience to judge these situations and obviously keep safety paramount as they should. It also brings to mind that edition of Air Crash Investigation involving an AA MD80 Srs attempting to land at Little Rock ( I think ) where despite atrocious weather conditions the Capt. would not entertain abandoning the approach or diverting as other flights were doing, and whilst fighting the weather failed to set the spoilers for landing. In this instance tough commercial reasons were to blame, did this also play a point in the AF A340 incident at Toronto a while ago. As I say guys, just thoughts.
I actually said “oh F**k off!” aloud
Sandy I’m shocked!!! However I largely agree with your poins.
Former Eastern, Conair, Atlanta Skylarks Boeing 720.

Probably a Stansted regular in the 70’s.
Very many thanks for that link. We used to handle that aircraft in its a/s Conair colours and then Atlanta Skylarks. Another of those travel clubs that used to drop in were the 707s of Denver Ports Of Call. Atlanta Skylarks often used a Boeing 727-100 on transatlantic trips.
Looks like an early ‘coal burner’ 720 to me but very difficult to judge on that image.
This story is certainly doing the rounds on many different forums, come on chaps…it aint going to happen
The engine checks are for egr/taxy only
Ah well, the thought was nice while it lasted;)
Good news indeed! Just a thought, I wonder if she will carry both the AF and BA liveries?
A very well done piece of TV I thought. Informative and devoid of sensationalist rubbish. As stated in the programme the evidence seems to support the theory that the aircraft was close to recovery at the time of impact. Hopefully the missing recorders will be found and the data can be used to learn from this tragic accident and just as importantly to bring closure to the families and friends of all those who died. May they rest in peace.
Actually guys – its rare that the gear is left down after take off for cooling purposes (7 years as an airline line engineer and I’ve never heard of it) – yes they get hot on the taxi – but normally holding lets these cool.
The most common reason for leaving the gear down is if one or more brake packs is inoperable – a spinning wheel weighing 230lbs would twist the main gear beam if retracted whilst spinning (gyroscpoic principle from your school days!). If a brake pack is locked out – speed is generally reduced below norm after climb out and the gear held out for an extended period to alow the wheel to stop spinning. There are no wheel speed sensors on the B747 – only a rate of change of speed pick up that is used as part of the brake anti lock function. This is not indicated on the flight deck.
Hope this helps

I remember that when the Air France A300s first started ops through LHR they seemed to do this every single take off.
I used ramp 707s and 720s in another life at STN. Back in the mid 80s a Captain on the 720s for a Danish airline a/s Conair once told me that he had flown 707s previous to joining a/s Conair and he described the 720B by comparison as the ‘sports’ model as it was a fair bit quicker than the 707 and its handling in the air ‘snappier’. As they operated only to CPH from STN and therefore were fairly light on fuel, the take offs on the 720 had to be seen to be believed, even with a full pax load. Our on airfield maintenance company Aviation Traders pulled in 707s from all over the globe along with 720s that were usually VIP/Govt. machines at that time. The DC8 was a frequent visitor to STN in Srs50, 61,62 and my favourite the -63 whose take off sound I shall always remember…….almost as good as a fully loaded IL62! 😉 BTW KC135s ‘a dime a dozen’ at Mildenhall.
Thanks for that info.:)
Some people seem to be under the impression that “lo-cost” means “low cost to the paying punter”.
In fact, it refers to a business model that keeps operating costs for the airline to an absolute minimum in order to maximise profits and dividends to shareholders.
Low fares are often, but by no means always, a by-product of this model.
Well put and no disrespect to EGPH at all, but I wonder how many people out there are under the same impression?
