I have to say that having spent 20 or so years in the airline industry that I was glad to see these series come along as none of my non-aviation friends believed half of what I told them went on at these airports. My favourite (and I think most true to life series) is the BBCs “Airport” focused on LHR.

I flew on a Scanair Srs63 in the mid 80s to ARN, a lovely a/c. It was interesting to observe the flexing of the fuselage as you looked down the aisle from the back row. I’ve heard that the same can be seen on the 757-300, is that so?

Some”oversight” to confuse GLA with PIK! Nothing new in this, its typical Ryanair. I’d rather use a full service carrier anyday. And I do.

Very nice pictures Gary. Thanks alot. The handling company that I used to work for handled the RAF movements thru STN (and still do I think) It was good to work on Tristars and VC10s.

I would say that the main reason for the higher number of DC10s still being around was due to the fact that many more were built. At the time of the launch of these two excellent machines there were major problems the commercial division of Lockheed and especially with engine maker Rolls-Royce, who almost ceased trading at the time due to the developement costs of the Tristars RB211 engines, causing the in service target date for the Tristar to slip badly. As I understand it this severely dented the airlines confidence in the both the availability and the ongoing support of the Tristar project for airline operation. Though technically superior to the DC10 these problems allowed McDonnell Douglas to run away with the prize.

Sorry to disagree mate but the DC10 gets my vote. My favourite schemes on them being Ghana Airways and Ariana Afghan.
