I have 2 DVDs on this subject. One is called Veteran Turboprops, and the other is called Vickers Props. Both are by Avion, and very well worth seeing.
Marvellous pics. I notice on the Ryanair close up, it’s possible to see the safety info on one of the seat backs.
Very nice pics. That Global looks almost as good as a Gulfstream…….almost;)
Some very nice shots. Thanks for sharing them:)
That would be really great to see those, I’ve always been fascinated by the Carvair, I had a flight on one in 1975. I used to have a great aunt who lived in a place called Great Wakering, which is close to the airport. I used to love seeing the almost constant stream of Carvairs and Bristol Freighters skimming over her rooftop. I hear that they might re-name the airport. If that’s true, maybe Freddie Laker would be a viable suggestion, bearing in mind his role in the founding of the Aviation Traders company at Southend and Stansted Airports, who in turn, using Freddie’s design, produced the Carvair, just a thought;)
Cheers!! you’re very welcome
That’s a real bummer about your situation!! hope you can manage a few visits this year and get nice weather too!
I’ve already had a really kind offer from another member, to take me to LHR the next time he goes down. I have missed it. We sure have some nice guys on here:)
How about “Freddie Laker Airport” or “Jack Jones Airport”, which is much more appropriate”
Personally I am a gerat believer in keeping the original name, i.e Southend (Rochford) Airport!
Not sure about Jack Jones, but IMO, Freddie Laker would be quite appropriate, bearing in mind the connection between him, the Carvair, and Southend Airport
I thought it was going to be names Southend – Hattie Jacques
I wouldn’t mind that. I met her once when she came into the supermarket that I worked in. I was on the ‘deli counter’ at the time, and she always bought her favourites, a quarter of corned beef, and smoked ham. She was a nice, very cheerful and down to earth lady Some of todays ‘celebrities’ could do with some of her humility. God rest her.
In ‘another life’ I had a lot to do with Air UK Shorts 330s and 360. G-BJFK was also a member of the Air UK fleet at one time. The crews were nice folks, and we were often taken along on circuit training flights from STN. Great times:)
Very nice shots. Not sure about that Challenger though:)
Very nice pics Scotty. I used to love a days spotting at LHR, but due to unexpected partial sight loss resulting in the withdrawal of my driving licence, I can no longer drive there, and good chauffeurs can be hard to find;) So I always look forward to these LHR pics from all the kind photographers on here:)
Nice set of pics.
Good to have some life back in the place too. For those of us who can
remember Southend in it’s heyday.
Anyone for a Carvair? I wish, Essex’s contribution to British aviation history;)
[QUOTE=EGTC;1842485]Fantastic! I wish I had been born abit earlier than the mid 80’s because I would have loved seeing the older props and early jets in action for longer.[/
I’ve often wished the same. For me, it was the 50s piston propliners that I would have liked to have worked on. But I did make it in time to work on jets like the 707, DC8, Caravelles etc, so I’m not too despondent;)
civilspotter/Culpano, Very nice pics. Not too keen on some of the post Soviet liveries, but that is progress I guess, and it’s always good to a Tupolev or two:)
Nice ones Keith, and belated happy new year! I do like those F70s, almost as pretty as the older F28s.
Makes good video and sells papers……….moving on;)
Here here to that.
