Without adding fuel to the already ranging fire!

Boeing moved its headquaters from Seattle to Chicago, because of certain “Tax Breaks” offered, i believe also that recieves huge amounts of “Tax Payers” money on its military side for developmental costs, to which there is probably some cross over..But as Boeing is one large company with one balance sheet, no one will actually know…Ands lets not start on certain govt people, who were employed by Boeing as advisors, trying to influence certain deals for replacement tankers(to which the A330 is a contender). Nor will we forget how the EL AL order for 5 Airbus A320’s suddenly got cancelled because of Political pressure from Washington (well documented, i will find the article later) forced the Tel Aviv based carrier to switch to Boeing products, and Boeing even payed the cancellation fees!

Boeing may not recieve launch aid as such, but it certainly relies upon the influence of washington to put the finishing touches on some deals, i may be mistaken, but one poor country ordered a few jets, which it clearly could not afford, Washington stepped in with a very friendly low-interest loan/pay us back when you make some money type deal, to which they didnt say no, and bingo, a year later, the new shiney jets are delivered.

Boeing is not not whiter than white, they probably have all 20 little chubby fingers and toes stuck in some very sticky pies

One would imagine that they would choose Rolls Royce power for the addintional A380’s, as that is what the first batch have…Unless the engine turns out to be a complete dog in service?

when i first saw the pics, i must admit that i though Airbus has just applied there own livery to the 787.
But fair play, they have come away from the 330 design and come up with something new

I think you can bet the proverbial farm on that Dan. 😉

I’m looking forward to the Airbus announcement regarding its A350 “replacement”.

Saving up orders is no bad thing though for either Airbus or Boeing and the airline involved.

Majority of the worlds press are there, so it would get more column inches than announcing on a normal weekday, better coverage for Airbus,ATR,Boeing,Bombardier and Embraer and the airlines, who can have there press boys and girls and answering questions etc etc

Airbus’ redesigned A350 to exceed Boeing 787’s range

Last Update: 3:49 AM ET Jul 14, 2006

LONDON (MarketWatch) — Airbus’ redesigned A350 aircraft, likely to be unveiled at the Farnborough Air Show next week, will match the speed of Boeing’s 787 and slightly exceeding its range, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday, citing confidential Airbus marketing documents. The A350 cabin will become slightly wider than that of Dreamliner, seating nine passengers in each row instead of the eight planned in the earlier version, the report said. Airbus is 80% owned by European defense company EADS.

How is giving Japan a decent excuse to go nuclear a ‘smart move’ for anyone except the rightwing japanese imperialists?

I think Bush scrapped that deal after they found out about NK cheating on nuclear enrichment.

a smart move from the North Korean side, because they then can say.. “look at us. Poor old North korea is being forced to defend its self from Japan and South Korea. 10 years down the line nobody will remember that North Korea started this game of brinkmanship, and will play the oppressed civilization card having to defend its ideals against the capatilists of America,South Korea and Japan. The sad thing is, because of the censorship in North Korea, the people will believe it, as they have no idea of what is going on outside there own borders.

Also if you was the japanese Prime Minister, you wouldn’t be happy that North Korea has started its nuclear processing plants. Along with development of there missles. What would you do?

On the otherhand.. Perhaps North Korea does want to go down the diplomatic route. there economy is non existant, chronic food and power shortages. they can use the nuclear and missle programes and barganing chips for aid

The key to North Korea is China…. Negiotiate with Beijing who will inturn talk to Pyongyang and open up diplomatic talks. But…. This could be a very clever move…Japan is a non nuclear weapon country..with these moves made by North Korea, Japan with its industrial power might be forced into becoming a nuclear super-power, with the increasing threat from NK, inturn South Korea will become more defensive, along with an increased detachment from the U.S.A. Either Pyongyang is playing poker and bluffing with a pair of 2’s or in 5-10’s year time will become a major threat to the whole area!

Also i was under the impression that President Clinton came to an agreement with North Korea to stop developing intercontinental ballistic missles in return for $30-40million of oil a year.. It seems that this agreement has been broken.

Also hard to believe that a country that has been reported to have food and energy shortages, can find the money to buy materials and equipment to develop missles…Communism at it best…where everybody is supposed to be equal, except some are more equal than others!

My condolences to the family’s involved.

But what i find absolutly disgusting is that the unit being attacked called in for air support, only to be told that it was committed elsewhere and it eventully turned up 2hrs later.
What ever your opinion on the troop comittments in Afghanistan be it right or wrong..surely the least they deserve is proper backup from air or land, which they clearly are not getting at the moment. And from what i have read in the newspapers, the MOD through the emergency procurement committee has ordered a batch of Armoured personel carriers from a company in Austria that will sell licences for them to be built in the UK for use in Afghanistan and Iraq. The first batch will be ready by late 2007, with the remaining arriving in 2008. But the real kick in the groin is that a company in Australia builds a vehicle along the same specs, and they can be delivered within 4-6 weeks!!!

I apologise to the mods for thread creep. but it really annoys me ( i would like to use stronger language) that after years of defence budget cuts, where things are being cut to the bone, that the goverment commits troops to war zones without the proper equipment needed to carry out there jobs (Lack of body armour, standard issue rifles that have well publicised problems-and the fix cost more money than buying in M16’s or Steyer AUGS, Radio’s that only work to “line of Sight” and communications carried out by Satphone or mobile phone)

Keep stansted…with the growth of Low cost carriers, then the all the shops in the terminal + the new terminal (when it gets built) could be quite a cash cow in the future.
