Nice shots there Si.WOW they still fly thoes things on the 1st shot forgot what they are called. Not to be rude but what was you doing on a American Aircraft carrier?

    James

    Hi James,
The EA6B Prowler is the ECM aircraft which is based in Washington State, when they embark on Atlantic based ships they have a hell of a journey. They sound absolutley awesome on the cat shot as they have no afterburner. They are being replaced by an F18 version, which will mean that most aircraft bar the E2C and the S60 will be F18 based airframes. Don’t worry your not being rude James; it’s my job, I am in the British Fleet Air Arm and one of my tasks is working on a project to help develop long lead training skills for our 2 new aircraft carriers. The USN have a great history of operating big carriers which can generate massive sortie rates so I embark on various ships (so far the Theodore Roosevelt, Harry S Truman and no IKE) and look at how they run the flight deck and other aviation related departments. It’s a great job but difficult when you are trying to take an interest in what is going on on deck when what you really want to do is take photos….!

Very well done Adam…..judging by the quality of your shots, I would say that this is the first of many.

    AJ,
Good first attempt with the new camera, can I ask what model it is? As Ramy says just keep on shooting, and that is the sheer beauty of digital cameras, you can take as many shots as your card holds…….I use 2x 1GB cards and a storage device and normally within an hour or so I have both cards full. Also mate, taking the photo is only 50% of the fun, editing it afterwards to try and get the best of of the shot is arguably the most difficult part. If you can get your set up right on the camera then editing will be a breeze as you have done most of the hard work actually taking the shot. Stick with it mate and look forward to seeing some more shots online very soon.

Some great shots Kenny, love the Evergreen and the AFR take off shot. The sky looks quite menacing on the CLX shot……did you get rained on?

Sam love the shot of the apron and tower; I was at DCA last Thursday on my way back from Norfolk Naval Air Station in VA, had a great (very hot) day in the park snapping the landing aircraft. If you walk away from the runway and under the railway and highway bridges you can get some great shots of the aircraft in the final turn to the runway. Did you manage to get some day shots?

    Great pics.

Im flying out on EZY in December to CGN. Do you have any tips about the best place to view from?

    Thanks

    Steve

    Steve,
There is a dedicated viewing area on top of the Terminal 2, the stair to it are by the downstairs cafe almost opposite the Lufthansa check in. Here is the link to the terminal map. Only problem with this area is that it gets quite full when the sun is shining and the windows are tinted which doesn’t help when taking shots of aircraft parked at T2. As far as outside the airport is concerned, I have no idea, sorry. Hope this helps and enjoy your time at CGN.

Some nice shots Paul, great unusual angles on the aircraft, second TAP A320 and of course the take off shots from LL stand out for me.

    Jetstream,
Thanks for the info, I thought it was odd and could not understand the reasoning behind the new vertical stabiliser.

    Cheers
