RIAT without rain?
I’ll just focus on the good news
If you have email then you can just attach the images to an email and send them over which would be very handy.
Or go to a website such as photobucket which hosts images and upload the images to there for everyone.
Either way I really appreciate the fact you have found them and can’t wait to see them.
I have a close-up slide and here is a scan of it.

AMB! you’re an absolute star!! ๐
Thank you for taking the time to have a look through, it’s really appreciated, as my evidence to work from so far is very limited!
My main area of interest is the back and top of the helmet, as I’ve got a front/side image.
Also at the back, the comms cable seems to exit through what I assume to be a rubber grommet, but I don’t have any evidence at all on it… it may just hang down form inside the helmet… If it was a grommet, i need to know it’s position..
I need to make my mind up on this before drilling a big hole in the back of the shell! Many thanks indeed, Scott. :D:D:D
Scott – don’t praise me just yet, as I have just been through my archives and have plenty of Firebirds Lightning photos, but no helmet close-ups.
I have a feeling it may have a white disc on the back with the Squadron’s Phoenix emblem on it, but not sure. I have put this to a group of friends that may be able to help, so keep your fingers crossed!
Scott,
I am an aerobatic teams historian and have lots of photos of the team, mainly the aircraft though. Don’t have access to my archives here, but will check them when I get home tonight.
nope, click on the link below the engine comment
OMG – I missed that! ๐ฎ
…so what kind of ‘roll’ did Don Bullock attempt to do in the A-26 Invader at Biggin Hill in October 1980? I would have said similar size and vintage aircraft and similar manoeuvre. One successful, one not! I certainly wouldn’t want to be on board a DC-3 if I thought the pilot was going to barrel-roll it! ๐ฎ
Pardon my misunderstanding -re engines, anybody:o
I think Tony T may be referring to the piston Provost’s Alvis Leonides engine being acquired as spares, maybe for an airworthy Pembroke? Actually this is one of Iraq’s Provosts delivered in the early ’50s and it would be great if this got restored intact.
Nine Lightning F.3s of No.111 Squadron, Wattisham, โThe Black Diamondsโ’
Sqn Ldr G P Black, Capt R Chisholm RCAF, Flt Lts C I Carr-White, J Mitchell, M B Bullocke, D M A Samuels, H Molland, E R Perreaux and P J W Creigh. Flt Lt B C Allchin (56 Sqn) attached for Paris air show. Flt Lt A J R Doyle solo aerobatic pilot.
Thanks Dave for your reply, repeated on PPrune. I presume George Black was the team leader? This is the first time I have ever heard this team called “The Black Diamonds”. What evidence of that do you have?
I know they displayed at USAF Bentwaters around May 65, North Weald, Paris, and Biggin Hill around Sept. Pilots in your picture – Back row, Tony Doyle, Kiwi Peraux, John Mitchel, Hedley Molland, ~Pete `creigh
Front row, ? Bob Chisholm RCAF, George Black, Chrsi Carr White , Barny Bullock
Hope that helps PM me if you need more info Rgds SF
That’s excellent – thanks very much as you have answered everything! ๐
Don’t think they were ever given a name and weren’t fitted with smoke, hence the need for the Red Arrows Gnat to ‘assist’. I believe ‘Kiwi’ Peraux is Euan Peraux who later joined the Red Arrows?
Here is G-ABVB and G-ABEG, the later of which was used by The King’s Flight
It’s not a genuine Luftwaffe march. It was written for the BofB film and was originally titled “Luftwaffe March” The piece of music is now called “Aces High” and was composed by Devonian Ron Goodwin. It is surely one of the most stirring pieces of military aviation music and, as such, appears on most RAF band CDs!
…and someone must have told them as I watched the report on Points West at 1840 and they changed the music! ๐
ZE432 is currently hangared with serious corrosion problems.
Peter, I thought I had read that the corrosion problems are being rectified and ‘432 would return to service?
Some new Macaws Pics and bits….
Ross, I’ve sent you a PM. I see your Dad was in the team during 1968-70.
I took this shot of him with the team arriving at RAF Colerne on 6th July 1968

Ross. I have just received a very interesting email from a colleague of your late father, who is now in Thailand.
Will you PM me your email address so that I can forward it on to you. Thanks.Mally.
Would that be Mike Fox by any chance? If not, I am in touch with him and he is in the Far East somewhere.
FAA Museum?
