..and confirmed as XH591
Signed. Well done Keiran
If this goes ahead, it will kill Shuttleworth, who won’t be able to absorb such charges and resort to a static museum.
Yes, ‘out’, is subjective. It can move a little way, but not all the way out. I understand they are planning to get all three outside in the new year for a photo shoot. Wait for that if your passion is pictures.
That was my suggestion I sent to Ralph Steiner and all staff at the museum last week. Suggested all three outside for a nightshoot, providing there is room to set up floodlights. Would do the museum a good deal of good as regards revenue and publicity.
Question – was the prototype rolled out 75 years ago with the engines still in unpainted red oxide primer, or did the team not have time to paint them for the re-enactment?
If both Cosford (and Hendon) took a more pro-active part in trying to preserve one of each RAF aircraft type as it was withdrawn, they would not have to paint civilian aircraft up masquerading as ‘RAF’ aircraft. I refer to the Britannia at Cosford. Also why on earth did they not keep one of the Queens Flight Herons? The Basset is a small aircraft and wouldn’t take up too much room, so should definately have a place at either Cosford or Hendon.
Excellent photos. Any more of the Bristol 173 (Belvedere)
Looks like Bristol 192 prototype, XG447 to me, Alex.
Anyone know if DH84 Dragon G-ACET is near to flying yet? That would be fantastic to see at Woburn.
Likewise;). I have fond memories of two Strat flights so this would stir the juices once again.
Ah, my last memories were at IAT73 and ’74 when a KC-97L was in the flying display at Greenham Common. Can’t wait for this one to fly and hopefully come to UK.
At Old Warden you’re pretty close to the aircraft anyway but if you get there early on a flying day you can buy a photo tour (£8.00) along the flight line. The crowd line at Old Warden is curved and with the vintage subjects so close, that in flight photography opportunities are excellent.
John
£8 !!!! In one sentence you have stated the reason a ‘photo tour’ uneccessary. You are so close to the aircraft on the ground at any time, so why spend another £8 on top of the £25 gate price?
Was it G-RORI that was lost
No, it was G-TIMM ‘XS111’ (XP504)
I wonder why it is, that the vast majority of those trying to get into this country, are men.
Where are the women and children ?
Gone to join ISIS and waiting for their husbands to get to the UK, claim our benefits and send them money!

Rich,
If you keep it in the white scheme, do you hope to have a mid upper turret installed?
think the Viscount is very important as it’s a 630 the original specification, G-ALWE being the other
Not so! The only 600 series Viscounts were the prototye G-AHRF and the Tay-engined VX217/G-AHRG. Both G-ALWE and ‘LWF were V.701s
Surely that would be a rather pointless repetition of an identical scheme worn by the Trident parked next to it.
You mean like the Dan Air Ambassador and York?
Would love to see the Herald painted in a classic period 1960’s scheme rather than the horrible Air UK blue which I think does nothing to the lines of the aircraft. How about Autair International? Classic clean and classy lines and very much of the period of the aircraft.
Autair International never operated G-APWJ. I commend Duxford for keeping the airliners in the actual colours in which they served. I would have liked to have seen the 1-11 in BEA ‘red square’ livery, but they changed livery before ‘VMU was delivered. BEA Speedjack would have made a nice change though. If they are going to keep the Herald authentic, they have a choice of British United, British Island Airways or back to that Air Yuk scheme! I would plump for the BUA acheme!:love-struck:
