I thought the programme was an opportunity missed, the entire programme devoted to the Royal Navy Sea Kings with just a cursory reference to the RAF because of Prince William’s connection. I appreciate this wasn’t really an aviation enthusiast’s programme, but they could have dug out some footage of ’66’ rescuing the first man on the moon after he splashed down surely and there was no mention of Igor Sikorsky either. As for keep harping on about how ‘British’ it was….well, the engines were British I suppose but certainly not the design!
If it was not G-ADIN, then which one is it, & exactly where is it now ?.

Perhaps Jet Age Museum at Staverton have acquired the parts and incorporating them in their Gamecock replica?
If anyone has any interesting period photos of Doves, Devons or Herons then I’d like very much to hear from them (via PM) in connection with a forthcoming project….
Lee
Lee – Sent you a PM ages ago offering my collection.
I always thought that ‘Devon’ was the name given by the MoD to the Dove in UK military service and the RNZAF just adopted the name.
Yes.
The reason being as simple as the finish on the 504 being new, the engineers didn’t want it splattered with castor oil after loads of ground runs.
The rotary engine for the 504 is now running well and the second rotary for the M1.C is coming together nicely.
The airframe of the M1.C needs an inspection and will then be ready.
Word on the streets is that you ‘should’ see both the AVRO 504K and the Bristol M1.C in the coming season.
Weather, and all else permitting.
Andy
Thanks for that Andy, that sounds great news! Will watch the website listings for when both types are down to fly.
I read somewhere that they are dealing with the corrosion issues in order for it to obtain a CAA Permit to Fly for just one ferry flight from Coventry to Newquay where the full refurbishment will be done. Not sure where they are with this, but removing the seats may be part of it?
Thanks for the update DCW. Can someone explain why the Avro 504k’s Le Rhone engine had to be mounted on the Bristol M1c to test it? What of the airworthiness of the Bristol M.1c?
Any chance of bringing the Gamecock outside?
They appear to have completely overlooked a much more important anniversary that they could have capitalised on -1918 will be the 100th Anniversary of the RAF!
Thanks for posting this mmitch. Reginald Turnill used to share the Farnborough show commentaries on BBCTV with Raymond Baxter and other aviation programmes. At the age of 97, what a good ‘innings’ he had and didn’t know he had lasted that long.
RIP
Shame the Britannia people can’t be included as I would love to see that and it would make the long trip worthwhile. I have no idea of its location and would like to know if it can be photographed from the area allocated to open day? This would be a very valuable PR and fund-raising exercise for the Brit.
I photographed VW453 stored with 5 MU at Kemble in April 1971. I believe many of the last of the RAF’s Meteors went there for storage and then they had a clear-out of the storage hangars and all were parked on the grass, presumably for scrapping. Thankfully a few were rescued including VW453.
Lyneham! Closed far too long! The skies are far too quiet over Swindon now! Reopen it now before the rot sets in!
Chinese Air Force “August 1st” Aerobatic Team to make European Tour? Will that do? 😎
…meanwhile, SIX 😮 years later…do we have any news on the Austers at Eggesford? Still haven’t seen XP241 and is the Hong Kong AOP.9 any nearer coming home from the States?
