Why is it recent governments are prepared to spend such vast amounts of money on the โ€˜securityโ€™ of Afghanistan at the cost of the security of the United Kingdom?

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1288062/Cost-Afghan-Iraq-wars-rises-20billion.html

Well it’s either Energy, gas transmission, vast mineral wealth, a strategic pincer position on Iran, vast narcotics wealth or perhaps the desire to help a poor impoverished down trodden people aspire to monocracy in a ‘Tony & George’ style.

However, as I suspect that they are being slaughtered even more efficiently than the Russians achieved, the latter would appear to be a pipe dream

The assembling EUSSR defense force will provide the missing facility and airframes.

They will also provide the airframes to ‘share’ the empty carriers.

I can’t make any claim to be an engineer – as I’m not – but what I was told when I last asked whether we were going ahead with swapping them out, was that several of them while worn were within limits, and the worst one was going to an overhaulers for regrinding.

What the current situation is regarding them I’ll have to ask about; but I don’t like the idea of fire at all. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

IIRC the photos posted previously illustrated significant erosion on at least one of the lobes of the cam, such that the unworn corner of the lobe was quite visibly higher than the abraded new profile….. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Would appear to be self defeating to run the engine with a source of self dosing particulate grinding media contaminating that expensive new oil? Especially when you have new cams in the spares stores.

As she is already now a little bit of a mixed child as per PA-474, how about leaving her internally and externally as is, but change the unit markings once every two years or so to represent the character of a particular aircraft from the gruelling early 39-42 era such as 75 (NZ) Sqd, 149 etc etc. A little like BBMF but on the ground.

A retro silver turretless external representation will be correct but what really is the point now?

    Hi

Has anyone got a four view drawing of a Fw190A-5. The Osprey books have A-4, A-6 and A-8 though an A-5 would be good to see.

Unfortunately too many differences between the A-4 and A-6 to use either.

    regards

Why not have a look at Arthur Bentley’s site? He may have just what you are looking for and more. (Arthur is very closely involved with Flug Werk, their 190 project and a very nice man too!)

That was the original spec, but they are going to have to make it 370mm to fit in the boxes ๐Ÿ˜‰

Please tell me that isn`t a spar going across the glazing in the front turret……………

    It’s ok, I think it’s just ‘Fanny Grey’ ๐Ÿ˜‰

That shadow appears on the B17 wing less than 2 seconds after the Corsair pilot pulled up…If the Corsair pilot had delayed 1 second I think the outcome would have been a lot worse.
B17 appears at in the frame at .05, Corsair pilot reacts & contrails appear from wings at 0.06, shadow crosses B17 wing at 0.07.. but in that one second the Corsair climbs quite a bit.

    They are ‘miles’ away….

    The camera lies.

I concur, the depth of field is a playing trick here. Note that the wing of the Corsair casts a shadow over the wing of the B17 several seconds later. If it were dangerously close, the shadow would have passed over very quickly if not at the same time. (IMHO)

Please! See if the cowlings can be redesigned so they are the right shape!

    Bruce

    Hi Bruce,

I read that before but I still can’t quite see it in the photos I have compared. What is the fundamental profile that needs tweaked?

Donยดt think IT will be sold in shops. Think it is internet shopping only??

I have already registered my interest for a colour version of IT, however this is now November and I am concerned.

The MRA4 had IIRC a 13 hour duration without AAR. AAR was provisioned for but not fully qualified. The MRA4 was not going to shut down two engines like MR2 anyway.

    Thanks Arthur

I mentioned earlier the rapid transit, endurance and engine 2 (+1 idling) engine (IIRC) extended loitering performance, though now one cared to remark. Wasn’t that another advantage of the Nimrod?

Surprised nobody has mentioned the fast transit speed, superior endurance and the loitering on two engines mode.

P3 would not have provided jobs or retained knowledge in the UK aviation industry.

Madness to scrap them, mothball or sell them at least!
