The series “Buccaneer” will definitely still exist in the BBC archives. However sometimes old TV series cannot be repeated or released on DVD because one or more members of the cast or crew refuse to let this happen (their consent as to be obtained)……

As happened for many years with “The Professionals” as well ! God i missed seeing those Capri’s !

However it would seem more likely that it was wiped by the Beeb, look what happened to the early episodes of Dad’s Army !

Thanks for the info , had also put a query up on the historic section as i hoped it might be a nice bit of aged erotica such as a DC6/7 or the Electra that you suggest !

Consensus seems to be an Electra, Herc or Russian cargo job.

    Thanks again.

Thanks for the replies folks ! As always this place does not disappoint when it come to provision of knowledge !

Will keep an eye open for slow flying, noisy broomsticks but fortunately there are few clothes or shoe shops with a flight path close to here !!:diablo:

Think you could be right about it being a Herc, I had a look at Radarvirtual ( great site thanks for the link !! ) , there is nothing showing on it that would seem to fit. I presume if she was a Military flight she wouldnt be shown so probably a Herc heading stateside?

Thanks Ben , will give a look at those sites.

Not sure if she was a turbo prop, she sure didnt sound anything like the inter-city jobs we see here flying from Belfast to Dublin, It may have been a Herc but she sure was making a hard job of getting where she was going !

Had hoped it might be something really exotic like a DC6 or 7 !! All i could see was her anti-collision lights when she was a good bit away.

Moggy, hope you have a great trip.

The battle for Crete is well known amongst those who have an interest in Airborne /Para ops in WW2 , the German paratroop regiments were decimated and IIRC werent used as airborne troops for the rest of the war.

They are regarded as being some of the more “decent” Axis forces , and it has to be said that many Veterans will tell you that. Having read “The Lost Battle: Crete 1941” by Callum MacDonald and seen these images you would begin to wonder. In total,3474 civilians died in front of firing squads up to the german surrender in 1945, Kev 35 has the german figures correct, Commonwealth casualities were 1741 including some who died while being used by german forces as a human shield. Brutality comes with war and many of these men would have been tremendous strain, but still that is no excuse for what the Fallschirmjager started and their successors continued.

That book, by the way , gives an excellant account of the battle and might make a good read while you are doing a cookstown on the beach !

Glad to see that justice has been done and this murdering scumbag has paid the price.

But as has been said already he was only a figure head, a recruitment poster-boy who is now a matryr. With so any different affliated groups he had only a marginal, almost PR only role. But that is now the problem, he will become even more iconic to those who beleived in his extremist views.

The War will continue, vigilance cannot be dropped and must be re-enhanced for the backlash that will come.
