It’s been a while since we gave an update, but due to the weather, not a lot has happened. Painting is still on hold. This weekend we managed to manually deploy the airbrakes for the first time since 1986. We are also now stripping instruments out of the crew area ready for restoration of the cabin area. Somed areas just need a deep clean whilst other places will need restoring, especially where the years of leaks have damaged the paint / metal / wood. Most of the leatherwork and other textiles will also have to be replaced.

[QUOTE=VulcanXL31984;1843610]Just seen this oxygen regulator MK21B from XL319 not sure if shes missing it or its been replaced but thought you would be interested. Im hoping to get my self down on a sunday to lend a hand in restoring her.

I suspect this was replaced whilst 319 was still in service, she still has a full complement. But thanks for letting us know.

More likely to be to compensate for the differential in internal / external air pressure at high altitude.

Thanks guys. We will get there one step at a time, we aren’t in a rush. Hopefully, as previously encounted, the corrosion on the airbrake motors will be confined to the surface. The motors and linkages will be stripped and refurbished. Nothing is impossible, just takes time and money.

Forgot to mention that plans are now afoot to get replacement glass panels made for the cockpit, ( thanks Steve and Phil) to replace damaged ones.

Do you have any Vulcan spare parts??

Can anyone help ? We are constantly on the lookout for parts to replace those that have been lost, damaged or stolen from XL319. We are currently looking for:

    anti-collision lights.
personal survival pack containers for rear crew seat pans.
Bomb firing buttons on wander cords.
    Periscope sextant.
    Rearmost ECM door
    Early upper UHF aerial
    28v Grimes bulbs
    co-pilot bomb fire button panel

Please let me know if you can help with any of these items.

Infact, if you have any spare Vulcan pieces, please get intouch. Thankyou

    update

Things have slowed due to the change in the weather. All external painting has now been put on hold. The white coat previously done under the port wing has been effected by the cold / dampness and has dried in a patchy gloss / matt combo. Nothing that cant be rectified though. We did manage to grt the bomb doors almost painted in white before we decided to hang up our paint brushes.
Therefore we have now moved our attention to warmer ( just ) interior matters. It is our intention to get the airbrakes operational for display purposes so the team crawled into the bombay to investigate the state of the motors and drive shafts etc. It quickly dawned on us that access was blocked by a huge lump of steel and aluminium more commonly called an “A” saddle fuel tank. Spent two weekends trying to loosen bolts on struts and supports and eventually succeded. As our bomb doors don’t open ( yet ) we couldn’t lower the tank so our only option was to move the tank further down the bay. This was done carefully inch by inch manouvering arround / over the smallest of obsticles which in such a confined space made them seem enormous.
Once the tank was moved we were able to see that the casings of the motors etc were well corroded due to water ingress and the rubbers on the universals joints were perished and the lubricant inside had long since gone.
That is where we are up to with the airbrakes.
Dont know if it was mentioned in earlier posts, but we have now aquired a replacement Gfrimes anti-collision lamp/unit to replace one of the three that were vandlised years ago. We are in discussion for a second light and still require a third.
We have also gained an early UHF aerial which we will fit to the prone bomb aimers blister, again to replace a vandlised unit. Again we need another for the top.
We are also chasing up on a wander button to fit on the bomb aimers panel in the blister.
Having learned a lesson 2 years ago we decided to take precautions against 319 tipping due to heavy snow on the wings. Even though the ECM equipment etc has been removed from the ECM bay, making the rear end a lot lighter, thus moving the C.O.D. forward we decided to prop the rear section.
The latest work has been to start freeing / loosening retaining screws on all the instrument panels in the rear crew area prior to removal for restoration.
Work will start during this week on testing / proving parts of the electrical systems ready for application of a 24/28v power supply with which we aim to power up some of the lights etc.

    More as it happens.

Pretty sure I have an anti-coll. light spare – it’s the teardrop shaped grimes one … I also have a UHF atenna, but it’s currently attached to a ‘bomb-aimers’ blister and I don’t really want to part with just the antenna….

Looking for suitable swapsies for the Hunter, or parts to complete my Vulcan throttle box (need the vernier plates/covers that fit between the throttle levers and a friction lever).

Excellent.Unfortunately I know we dont have the Vulcan spare parts you mentioned. And as far as I know we dont have Hunter spares. Would you be interested in a cash sale. if so how much for the light and the blister ?

I asked on the NEAM thread, but heard nothing, so do you know if there’s a service at NEAM for Remembrance Sunday?

Can you believe it’s almost two years since I started this thread with the pictures of 319 reaching for the sky in the snow?!!

Yes there will be a Remembrance Service at NEAM 13th Nov.
