I think the talk of holidays and money is becoming annoying.
Regardless of whether you fly ‘Cattle Class’ or the slightly better ‘Cattle Class Plus’ on a charter airline, you’re going on holiday and that’s that.
Even if I had the option to fly in a charter airline’s equivalent of First Class, I wouldn’t bother with it. Having already been ripped for some shoddy package holiday, I don’t want to have to fork out £250 or more to be as comfortable as I would be with what I call ‘real airline’.
The thought of no legroom, no width to your seat and charges for inflight meals, drinks and entetainment just does not appeal!
Anyone that can afford a package holiday can also afford a holiday where you fly with a proper airline, and even have quite a bit of money leftover! For example, I am paying just £736 for a 29-night holiday at a 4* Hotel in Thailand in March next Spring. I’m going to be flying with Phuket Air, so not too great, but to travel with Thai earlier this year cost just an extra £50 or something. Of course, we’ve still booked through Kuoni, but unlike other companies, we are getting real value for money! I must also point out that Kuoni has been the winner of the best long-haul tour operator for the past 21 consecutive years.
To be honest, I dread to think what a package holiday with the likes of MyTravel, Thomas Cook or Thomson would cost us. Two weeks of spring sunshine would have cost more than £750 and the flight to Phuket would last 13 hours, we’d be ripped off by the airline, paying 60p for a 150ml can of Coca Cola, £3 for a set of headphones and a very heavy supplement for a tasteless, puny meal.
By the time you’ve whacked your charter airline upgrade fee onto the cost of your holiday, you’re looking at paying twice as much than a company like Kuoni. Really, the only difference with ‘Cattle Class Plus’ is that you are getting the service that an airline like Virgin Atlantic, Thai Airways, British Airways etc would offer in their economy class anyway!
