This is what I’m hoping to do with Virgin Atlantic next week, although the chances of me actually getting a job with the airline are very slim.

For the next 2 years, I’m still going to be a full-time student studying for a degree. I live 25 miles from Heathrow Airport and I’m only 19! :confused:

I’ll wait and see. Although no convinced that I’ll be offered a job with the airline, I guess you have to be in to win it. 🙂

A bag in Manchester is on the carousel awaiting collection. It is clearly marked ‘EDI’ on the case. With the number of flights operated by British Airways between MAN and EDI each day, I cannot understand why it did not get to me until 17 hours after I had checked in for my flight from London Gatwick.

Seems simple really – If a bag ends up in the wrong place (which mine obviously did), whack it on the next flight to the right destination. An airline has a duty to ensure that both passengers and their cargo arrive in the same destination at the same time.

Certainly not much use when you’re spending just two days away from home and you don’t have your clothes and your washbag!

Any of you who may have been affected by the cancellations, I would not recommend their Baggage Tracing Hotline like the article suggests.

I had the pleasure of using it once, when by bag ended up in Manchester for some random reason. The staff on the phones are totally useless and the time it takes to reunite you with your bag is beyond a joke, especially when you consider it is only 150 miles or so down the road!

For all four trips I have made with bmi, I have wanted G-MIDL. Instead, I’ve ended up with G-MIDK (twice), G-MIDM and G-MIDJ!

Hear Hear T5, i was impressed with them aswell. I’d never flown with them short-haul, only long haul and i thought they were v good!

Where abouts did you travel to long-haul?

There was a time whenever I wanted to go up north, I’d travel by car. Not anymore though. Within an hour and for little more than £50, you can travel in style from Heathrow to Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow on board the cleanest aircraft, be served the nicest snacks and experience the service from most pleasant cabin staff.

I’d choose them over British Airways anyday. 😎

I’m certainly very impressed with bmi and their Airbus A321 aircraft.

Not only are their fares extremely competitive, but the amount of legroom is more than impressive for a domestic service, check-in is always a breeze and they seem very punctual.

I’ll continue to use them wherever I can.

I’m still trying to work out whether or not I’ll be going along or if I’ll be ringing them and telling them that I’ve changed my mind.

Their letter which arrived in the post a few days ago looked like just a standard mail-merge jobby, which I expect it was. It told me that I was through to the next round of the recruitment process. I was under the impression that they invited all applicants to the interviews the week after next and made their mind up from there.

At just 19, I’m the youngest aged member of staff that Virgin will take on. I’m also a student wanting part-time hours, so what do I have going for me?

Fortunately, I’ve quite a lot of relevant experience at such a young age which could be a bonus. Like most people of my age, I work in ‘retail’ (the fancy term for shop-work) and have worked for the same company for nearly 3 and a half years, since I was 15. During my time, I have taken on the role of Cash Office Administrator and Supervisor. Both of these roles I have been in for nearly 3 years!

Fingers crossed, I might be lucky! If they’re anything like Thomas Cook were, maybe not so lucky!

Does anyone know what such a job would pay? The same job with South African Airways pays a mere £5.40 per hour, which is not even close to what I am earning at the moment. Its basically customer service work.

I would have to travel 25 miles to the airport for each day of work, so I would want the pay to be worthwhile to cover public transport costs.

Most would hate the closeness of your hotel to the airport. I expect the noise would drive most people mad, but us lot absolutely love it!

And with your attempt at making us jealous… I think its safe to say that you’ve succeeded! You’re in for a great trip. 🙂
